As a response to the "compatible Programs" thread (which to me seems like it'd be too unwieldy since the vast majority of apps are compatible), how about an Incompatible Programs thread? Please note whether the issue is related to x86, x64, or both. And maybe also what about the app is incompatible...ie, won't install, or installs but all the features won't function, etc.

    I have two:

Directory Opus, from GPS Software - Installs fine and works as a standalone file manager, but the explorer-replacement feature (which is what you really want) does not yet work under Windows 7. There were similar issues with the Vista release, and GPS had a Vista compatible version a couple of months after the general release. GPS has said in their forums that they'll begin working on a Win 7 version once Windows 7 has been finalized.

Realtime Soft Ultramon - Multi monitor utility. Currently does not work with Windows 7. The developer is actively working on an update, but no ETA has been announced.

Both of these will be applicable to both x86 and x64.

Feel free to add your own incompatible apps to this thread.

Not true. the newest version offers support for Windows 7. Windows will complain about Deamon Tools when you install but if you force it you find that it does work.

Last week I used daemon tool on Windows 7 64-bit to reinstall Vista64 on a separate partition....worked OK

Just for clarification these programs that give compatibility issues; it might be worth mentioning that users experiencing such problems with any program should try to run the program in Compatibility Mode. For example HP's USB Boot Drive application wasn't working properly under 7...I ran it with the recommended Compatibility settings which was for Windows XP SP2 and the program ran just fine after that.

Good catch on that. I've been contemplating installing Win 7 on my desktop (it needs rebuilt anyway) and Easy CD-DA is an app I use occasionally. Not vital or anything, but good to know in advance.

When you install it says something like "there are known incompatibilities with this software--do you want to install"

    I said YES

    guys, what's the point?

Win7 isn't a shipping product, not until October. Lots of time between then and now for msft and the market to make changes and do rewrite work.

Yup it will start fine the first time, but then everytime you would start it it will start then immediately cause an unkown error and shutdown. So I thought that particular version of Easy-CD DA Extractor was messed up. Tried it on Vista, worked like a charm :(

Like you said, not that it's a vital application, sometime I never use it, but sometimes I really like converting music using that app it's so easy and fast.

PS: running in compatiblity mode did not help, i'm not a n00b, I have tried that before posting it here. Good luck on that, maybe its just me but .....

This would be a good one to try in Virtual XP. I might try that later on my notebook. I'll report back if it works under that.

Comodo Internet Security Suite Defense+ and Firewall. On windows 7 build 7100+.

It'll install just fine it's just one you try to do anything you find out what it's done. It won't let you run any program that'll need to connect to the net. This is only with Windows 7 build 7100+. As of build 7201 the problem still remains. Seems i'll be having to find a different firewall oh well.

I'm gonna say that MSFT's own intellipoint software for MS Wireless Optical Mouse is flaky, it works but flaky.

Half the time it won't recognise a mouse click until the second, or sometimes even the third click before it registers. I removed W7 RC, put Vista SP2 back on with the same intellipoint vista driver and the mouse works perfectly again.

If it works on Vista, there's no need to run a virtual machine to get it working.

Compatibility mode set to Vista should be enough.

    then again, should.

Well, I didn't even have to do that. I just installed it normally on Windows 7 x64 and it worked fine as is. Ripped a CD with no issues at all. Not sure why it didn't work for maXimus.

I found ZoneAlarm to be incompatible as when I tried to install it it wouldn't allow me to. I'm wondering what people are using for a Firewall currently, freeware that is.

Pfft, big deal, that crap doesn't work right on any operating system I know of. Sorry, couldn't resist...

I bought a C7280 a little more than a year ago, and it's a great printer, but their software if the worst garbage I have seen in many, many years of PC computing. I will never, ever buy an HP product again.

Very good point, I actaully forgot about the compatibility mode when I started the thread. Mode is for XP SP2 and also 1 for Vista SP1 (I think)

I think it depends on the actualo sound card. They aren't updating some of the drivers for the older ones like for my XPS 700, I just bought a newer card.

    Thanks for all the input.

Also, I'm running McAfee Security Center also, no problem.
