    Hello,

I just bought an intel 330 ssd courtesy of black Friday. I installed it and did a fresh instal of windows 7 pro 64. First few starts were fine, until I installed all the updates. Now it hangs up during start up.

It will start, pass BIOS screen, go to the login screen, I enter my password, then it sits for almost a minute at "welcome", then a black screen with cursor (moveable) for another 45 seconds or so

I tried searching the internet, but haven't found any solutions yet. I tried disabling one update, a solution I found googling, but that didn't help

edit: just wanted to add, it is much faster then my original HD to the login screen, then much slower then my orignal HD after that. My original took maybe 25 seconds? and no black screen

I would try disabling startup items one by one and restart to see if it still hangs.

Thanks for the help so far. I tried a "selective start" earlier, and eventually all startup programs were disabled, still same issue. I also tried making another user account previously, still same result. I'll try the intel utility now

on a side note, coming back from sleep mode is just fine

Bad update. Pinpointing which update is a whole problem in itself. If you did a clean reboot (disabling all startup items and disabling all services, EXCEPT for Microsoft services), then that's sufficient enough to imply that it's not a result of any software you've installed outside of the updates.

Do you have a restore point? You can also try using "last known good configuration" in the advanced boot options menu.

If all else fails, do a recovery or a format reload (back up your data first). It's unlikely it's a faulty hard drive, so roll with some of the advice you find and let us know how it works out. :)

tried a few more things, did a restore, last known good config, and intel toolbox scan came back fine. Guess its time for format reload....ugh so much trouble to get this thing back to normal!

Ah sorry to hear that. If you happen to keep track, let me know what your total time is with Windows updates with that SSD. I'd like to know how much it expedites the installation and configuration of the updates.

Do you have antivirus software? If no then install the good one and run scan. Sometimes virus attacks in new PC as well.

I did have a/v software, one of the first things I installed. Its good now though...

as far as the updates, I saw the post after I already did it. Once they were dl'ed, (I think around 98), it took maybe 25 min? Not positive though, I was doing other things during the process
