If I get a new laptop with Windows 7 Premium is it worth it to upgrade it to Windows 7 Ultimate for gaming?

May I ask you a question back:
Why should there be a difference in performance when gaming?
The different Windows Versions have (with the exception of starter/basic for undespcced computers) absolutley nothing to do wit performanc but with features and support for for example business requirements (e.g. domain name) -
I think maybe he wanted to know if there were any advantages for a gamer? But in fact, it's what you told him.

So then it would be pointless to upgrade to Ultimate in terms of performance?
-
There are many advantages to an upgrade to W7 Ultimate, but and enhanced performance isn't one of them.
-
Many advantages for the average home user?
There are definitey some advantages under certain condition - but its different on a case by case basis. -
Short answer: yes. You aren't going to see difference performance, it is the same core system. Ultimate just has extras.
-
Analogy: It's like getting the luxury options for a car, it's not gonna make it go faster.

Okay well here is a question: what does ultimate offer that premium doesn't?
-
Just google it? Like everyone else said, you just get extra feasures that the typical home user might not find useful.

features for the ultimate power users, which gamers aren't. they don't use much of the os, except to boot up steam in autorun. -

Hi to all
This is Jone and I am planning to buy new laptop. But confused little which system to buy Windows 7 or Vista. So please share your experience so i can get some ideas.which one is better..?
Thanks in advance -
Windows 7 is better but there's not really a need paying more for it.
-
If you are buying a new system, definitely get Windows 7.
Vista is still a good OS - and I reinstalled that on my Vaio when I swapped in a SSD - also because I'm lazy and its the same at its core.
However there is no reason why you should buy a less optimized system except if you get a huge saving on Vista. -
Okay here my situation: I originally upgraded from Windows Vista (preinstalled) which was running my system with the CPU in the teens and twenties, and occasional thirties. However, after W7 upgrade it's now routinely peaks at 100%.
For example, I'm currently running a virus scan with 4 windows open (previously a cpu cake walk) and the CPU and all cores are peaked at 100%!
Any ideas on this anomaly? My computer has slowed to a crawl. Did I miss something in the upgrade?
Edit: I just closed the browser and it's still at 100%. Virus scan only -
If your Anti virus software is KIS 2010 - it broke...
Else I suspect that its a driver that's incompatible or getting out of hand.
Download process explorer from the Sysinternals Website (on technet) and track down what exactly causes the CPU load. -
Norton 360 actually. I added it to my sig.
Will do.
