My old Dell XPS M1530 (running W7 RC) was acting kinda funny and was in need of a wipe. So I popped in my burnt W7RC DVD and formatted the HDD and then reinstalled W7RC... well almost. When I get to the home page I am prompted to register but all I get is a message that reads "This product is not licensed. Back up your files and install a released version of this product." I lost my original key but since they are still letting you get new keys I just got another one hopping it would work. Well I guess not. I tried multiple keys from Window's site but to no avail. Now my desktop is black and at the bottom of the desktop the following message appears:
Windows 7
Build 7100
This copy of Windows is not genuine. (how can it not be genuine if I got it from the Windows website?????)
I tried re-installing the OS multiple times with different keys as well but there was no change in the behavior.
Solutions, suggestions, opinions, help????![]()

Did you check out Microsoft's site?
-
When the RTM's been out for a while I'm surprised people are still using betas.
-
If I am not mistaken, to get Windows 7 RTM, one need to register something or something like that. After that, only download and install the OS legally. The registration is FREE.
So, many people still using Windows 7 Beta and Windows 7 RC. -
You need a subscription to Technet or MSDN to get RTM, until Windows 7 is available to the public on October 22.
-
To the OP - where did you get these additional keys? Also, do you have Windows activate upon first boot (option during the install)?
-
Not to be a show off, but not me =)

How do I get said subscriptions? I got all keys and files from the Windows website.
-
Was that really necessary?
-
I really LOL'd.
That's really not necessary. But he shows, I think it should be OK.
To OP, Don't use RC anymore, the build is way too old.
Use RTM instead. If you don't mind, you can try to use my Windows 7 RC license key. I don't need it anymore. LOL. -
That means he has to pay $339 for the subscription to Technet or MSDN. Might as well save that money and wait until october.
-
Guys, are you aware you're not allowed to use the MSDN version for general use?
-
Had it have been a "ha ha, look at you still using a beta", probably not, but it was just to show I wasn't. I installed one of the early betas and took it of because of issues, then the R.C, but again went back to Vista. Since I've installed the RTM, I've not had any issues with x86 or x64.
It seems a lot of issues people are having stems from their version being a beta, and trying everything they can to get to function as the RTM.
? -
lol... yes its technically for school related work only right? Lets see that enforced...... -
MSDNAA is for academic use. MSDN (Microsoft Developer Network) and TechNet are for developer/tester use. Both MSDN and TechNet software can be used after the subscription expires. Anything outside of development/testing requires a standard license, per the MSDN/TechNet agreements.
Windows 7 RC won't register.
