Hi, when I purchased my gateway p7811 fx about 2 years ago it came installed with windows vista. I decided to then install the windows 7 RC (build 7100) version on my laptop and have been running it ever since. Well, now like Microsoft warned, my computer shuts down every two hours. I have now decided that I want to do a clean install of a valid version of windows 7, so I purchased the windows 7 anytime upgrade (Home premium from starter version). I have a few questions..

Does the upgrade just come with a product key? (Afraid to open it and void return policy)

Is there a way to do a clean install from the windows 7 RC to regular windows 7 using the anytime upgrade?

Or could I just use the product key (that comes with the anytime upgrade) with the windows 7 iso installation disk I created when I installed the RC client?

I am not interested in "upgrading" from the RC to the genuine version..I just simply want to do a "clean" installation. Is there anyway to do this without purchasing the expensive full retail version?

Please help, I do not want to risk opening the anytime upgrade and it not working and voiding the return policy.

    Thanks,
    Camden

Running the RC doesn't entitle you to anything.

Unless you have a school or other professional hookup that lets you buy a real Win7 license at a discounted price, you've stuck paying retail.

Don't bother trolling ebay or elsewhere looking for 'discounted' Win7 licenses. Those are usually (always?) improperly re-sold technet licenses. Microsoft is very very aggressive about canceling anything purchased outside of legit channels.
