After being hesitant to install Windows 7 SP1 on my Envy 14, I took the plunge after many recommendations here to do so. Everything downloaded okay, and the install was successful. Yeah, right.

Now I've got a problem. When I try to get on the internet, IE8 starts but my home page never actually loads, and I almost immediately get a message box that says: "Internet Explorer has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

After this, nothing really happens, and I have to do a hard shut down to get that screen to close. I've tried rebooting this way several times and then trying the internet again, but the same thing happens. I also tried changing my home page, but that did nothing. Everything was great until the SP1 install. Anyone have this problem, and does anyone have any ideas?

Check the add ons you installed
Reset Internet Explorer if need be.

    To do this

START > CONTROL PANEL > INTERNET OPTIONS > ADVANCED

click the RESET button on the BOTTOM

Tried all of the above, but no luck. When I was going to do the RESET, I clicked on the help section to read about it first, and in the help description there was a link to go to the internet. I tried clicking on that, and then it worked and I was on the internet. However, once I closed the browser, it quit working again. Tried this process a couple of times, and it would work then stop again. Did the Reset thing, and then it would never work. Also tried to go back to a restore point prior to installing SP1, but still couldn't get IE8 to open a web page. Very, very frustrated right now.

Just got up this morning, and saw that post. More than likely that is/was my problem since I'm running NIS 2011. Unfortunately, I think that from trying a variety of things to fix yesterday to fix the problem, I've really screwed up my laptop. Have to check it out again after I wake up more.
