    Hi,

    Sorry for my bad english.

My new Asus Eee Pc 1005HA is a very nice notebook.

I have only one problem : I have one desktop, my wife has one desktop. Both are connected to a modem-router Castlenet CBV734EW connected to the Internet. Each desktop, both on Windows Xp, can see the other one and can share with him. If I can connect the Asus Eee Pc 1005HA to the Internet via the modem-router I can not see the desktops. I tried but it looks like I have to buy a better licence.

Do you know a way to share with the desktops without buying a better (and more expensive) licence ? Is there an easy way, ftp (I don't know how...) or something equal, to transmit some files between my desktop and my notebook ?

I hope I gave you enough good explanations.

    Thanks for you answers.

    yatri

As far as I know Windows 7 Starter should have Lan functions to allow sharing between computers.

One basic common oversight people make when changing to Windows 7 and setting up a Lan is that the default Workgroup name has changed. In XP it is "MSHOME", in Windows 7 it is "WORKGROUP". The workgroup names much match on all computers that are trying to communicate. If you have not done so, please make all workgroup names match, that is the first step (maybe all that is needed).

You can either change the Workgroup name in XP or Windows 7. In Windows 7, you would right click on Computer, left click on Properties, select Advanced system settings on the left side of the screen (I have Professional, hope Starter is the same), select Computer Name tab then Change (To rename this computer or chnge its domain or workgroup) then enter the new Workgroup name to the same as what you have in your XP desktops (probably MSHOME).

I can confirm that win7 starter has full LAN function.Deeastman has given you excellent advice. Now your units don't see each other because technically don't belong to the same network since they don't have the same name.Change the name and everything should be fine.

    Hi,

Thanks to you both, deeastman and thundernet.

In the start menu (menu démarrer) I clicked right on computer (ordinateur), I chose "left-click" Property (Propriétés), then "left-click" Advanced system setings (Paramètres système avancés), then Computer Name (Nom de l'ordinateur), then Modify (Modifier) and I changed the Work Group (Groupe de Travail).

I thought Windows 7 Starter was a "light" Windows 7...

Your answer gave me the path very quickly.

    Thanks again.
