could he just be using a technet/msdn/msdnaa account, maybe brought a few accounts and just makes enough for it to be profitible?

That's my guess and the more plausible scenario, one in which the subscriber is just looking to recoup their investment. Is it wrong, yes but one MS will probably not do anything about because everyone so far has gotten good keys THAT WORK and MS has been paid by the subscriber.

If MS were to find out the seller was in fact selling their keys they would not be renewed.

and yes, msft has invalidated keys in the past.

Not just for new activations, but for things that require validation such as security downloads and office installs.

Your office install doesn't just verify the office key/license. it also validates the key/license of the os it's being installed to.

I had that same question, but after looking at it I have no reason to upgrade to ultimate really and I am just going to use this on my laptop as a dual boot and keep home premium as my OS on the Desktop.

if anyone would like and trusts me enough i can check you key to see what type and where it came from.

to note these are being sold illegally and ebay will keep cutting them off as fast as they can. when you own a msd or technet account and ms sees the keys going out and being activated in diff areas of the world other that what they are intended for they have blacklisted them before. currently there are no keygens out there for win7 so that is not where they are getting them

    btw:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-Window...US_Software?hash=item335788a86b#ht_500wt_1182

i can also add that shipments of win7 were stolen from various stores so these could have come from those. a freind of mine who works at a large chain said they had numerous cases stolen and this is not the first time i have heard that

okay here is the tool to check your keys

    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

download it. click to run then when it opens click continue. you will see another box come up please ERASE OR BLACK OUT THE LIC KEY but paste the rest here so we can see what type these are. this will give us all the info we need.

ALSO NOTE WAT activation checks are NOT ONLINE yet so just because it passes validation now does not mean it will in the next couple weeks when wat is up and running. wga is no longer a part of win7 and is no more. it has been replaced by wat or "windows activation technologies" so just because the online thing says genuine that may change soon. use the tool i posted THAT IS DIRECT FROM MS and post results WITHOUT THE KEY and ill tell you what type these are after that.

dunno, but if i want to have stolen stuff, then i would actually steal windows myself, a.k.a. not even pay 24$ for it.

someone got insanely rich in a short time now, anyways :)

If I wanted to steal Windows 7 I could have used a BIOS Loader or deactivated the WAP which I didn't do, so stop being so self righteous. ;)

I thought it was a fantastic deal and had no idea it could be stolen and we don't know if that's still the case. So please spare me the drama.

if it wouldn't be stolen from somewhere, then why it's the only such awesome deal on the whole world? you payed for something you could have gotten for free: an illegally obtained windows licence.

it's not about drama, it's about questioning why to pay at all if you don't want to pay the official way?

It is about the drama and presenting yourself as a self righteous individual. In this economy everyone is looking for a deal. It's no different than when I paid half price for a brand new videogame which I later found out was a legit purchase and transaction. So please spare me. :p

Like I said if I wanted free I have other means to get a totally free Windows 7 that passes WGA. Like I said I didn't go that route and instead I paid for something that was sold and I agree to their price. If they had sold the key for $99 I would have paid for that as well as I still consider that a good deal.

There you go people. If you want a key, go get em. Looks pretty legit (well, as legit as it can be..) At the worst you'll get to activate, and then they key will get blacklisted, at the best, can't beat $25 or so for Ultimate.

hehe, yeah, and you really believe what you said, and such.. :) like you never questioned how the deal came to existance, and such..

and yes, i'm one of those who doesn't buy into such 'special deals' when i know most likely, it was illegal, or on abuse of something/someone.

this is not about drama, but about being able to stand behind what one does. buying stuff that most likely is stolen is not something i can stand behind. i prefer fully stolen, then. at least, no one made money out of stealing, then, except myself. not that i would do that hehe.

and "in this economy" is so overused to make your bad feelings go away when doing unfair stuff right now :)

I really don't care what you think. Do I feel bad about the $24 deal I got? Hell no. Did I think where the key came from or how the seller got in possession of it? Hell no, I don't care and it never crossed my mind because i've gotten killer deals on ebay in the past that were on the up and up.

And yes in this "economy" people every where are looking for deals when they present themselves. :p

Oh cut it out you two. I mean I personally side with Dave on this one in that I follow the "if it's to good to be true, it probably is" rule--and 90% off MSRP is too good. If that is not reason enough to suppect something is up then the shadiness behind the deal is. (New seller, little previous feedback, now multiple eBay IDs, etc.) But really, what do you expect Rod to do? Ask for refund on a stolen item? (Not saying it is stolen, but in the case of your argument it must be.) Throw out the key? Report it to MS? (Which it seems he has already taken steps in that direction.) Give him a break, he was looking for good deal on eBay. I do that all the time without questioning whether an item is stolen. The last thing I bought off eBay was popcorn popper last week and I didn't stop to ask if it might have been stolen. (Of course it was only 25% off MSRP not 90%.)

@zfactor Very curious to know what you find out.

lol microsoft says the keys you guys gave me to check are.............

in fact retail keys??!!..... im shocked. he did say he will be contacting ebay and will be monitoring ebay much more closely now. he also said they know which keys were stolen as the stores reported them and he said ms can track those shipments so if these are in fact stolen keys (he said they may or may not be he is not in that division) eventually they will be blocked by ms. but for now he said they are in fact retail keys.

Because of the very cheap prices for just the retail key, multiple relatively new ebay sellers(both from 2009) with limited feedback(newest seller has less than 100), and Microsoft unable to verify they were legally acquired, this thread is now closed until further notice(discussion on piracy/fraud is against the forum rules).

Again, this could just be a false alarm, so zfactor please PM me if you get anything definitive from Microsoft/Ebay.

    Thanks for your cooperation.
