I just wanted to verify some details i read here on the internet about the windows 7 upgrade dvd

    1. Once u do an upgrade to windows 7.. the cd key of ur previous OS will be deactivated then tied up with ur upgrade license key?
    2. If the old cd key is deactived, and in the future u need to reformat ur windows 7 .. how will u be able to install a fresh copy of windows 7 using the upgrade dvd when ur old cd key for ur old os is deactivated which means u can still install a fresh copy of ur OLD OS but without a working cd key so whats gonna happen?
    3. I saw a hack/workaround for windows vista upgrade dvd to be able to do a clean install without having to install a fresh copy of ur previous OS..would this work for windows 7 upgrade dvd?

With these questions.. im really thinking, what happens in the future if i need to reformat my windows 7.. and i only have a windows 7 upgrade dvd... Hope to hear from the experts :) I just hope that it is possible to do a clean install with the windows 7 upgrade dvd.. Thanks alot! sorry for these questions.. i just want to know the facts :)

I don't think that the upgrade would use the license of your former OS. The big difference between the upgrade DVD and the full version is that the upgrade requires an earlier OS in order to install.

In short, the upgrade gives a separate license. This also means that whenever you have to reformat and you have the upgrade DVD, you would have to recover your old OS first.

Well.. i read about something to do with oem license key of vista being getting disabled after u upgrade to windows 7? Microsoft will deactivate the oem keys to prevent the piracy that might happen..

Deactivating the OEM license won't really do them any good, since the OEM license can only be used on that same computer/
