Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone knows how to set Win7 to verbose boot/shutdown? Google yielded tons of results for Vista and XP, but next to nothing for 7.
Any ideas on what I should do? Thanks very much!

what works for vista should work for win7. dunno, you tried that?

verbose boot shows additional logging information during the boot. mainly for debugging if something goes wrong during bootup. normally implemented for developers.

EasyBCD (I think it is) - Has an option to enable it easily.

msconfig has the option for me i think (it's in german here)
-
If the option isn't in Msconfig, I wouldn't know where to look aside from the registry (be careful).
Open regedit and go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Policies\System
In right-side pane create/modify DWORD value VerboseStatus and set its value to:
0 - To Disable Verbose Status Message
1 - To Enable Verbose Status Message
Exit Registry Editor and restart your system to see the changes. -
The option **IS** in msconfig|boot
select both the items BootLog *and* OSBootInformation.
Your boot info will be stored in the file %SystemRoot%Ntbtlog.txt as well as the drivers being shown on-screen. -
I think its a different thing, newspower. Either way, going with Angelic's method is what i would do.

indeed. the msconfig thing is boot time verbose information, the thing of angelic afaik is logon time verbose informatoin.
msconfig == white text on black background, angelic registry = text in the middle on win7 logonscreen picture. -
Oh, so you actually need the registry edit to properly get verbose boot? Good to know.

it depends on what you call "proper verbose boot".
if you want to see drivers loaded and such, no msconfig is way to go. if you want to see what happens at the logon process (loading your profile, loading registry, blabla), then yes, that's in the registry (or group policy).

there are additional settings available via the GPE
no need to open the registry so this hack or tweak is reduced to the mere status of a user configurable item.
