My computer is set to install automatic updates for Windows. There is a update that is less then 500kb and when I shut down my computer it will say, "DO NOT TURN OFF OR DISCONNECT YOUR COMPUTER, INSTALLING UPDATE 1 OF 1." And it seems like it freezes on that screen. I left the laptop on all night and I wake up the next morning to find out that it's still on that same screen.
There is NO activity from the hard drive or the processor. I've used chkdsk, windows memory diagnostics, and ran a virus scan. Everything came up as NO PROBLEMS FOUND.
This is really frustrating as everytime I shut down the system it will go and do what same routine. It will try to install itself and then freeze. I've owned this laptop for less then 15 days and use it for school and currently only have one game installed on it. There was no problems to doing windows updates until yesterday when that new update was issued.
I'm not sure if it's a windows related issue or not. I went to check on my fathers desktop as he also is running windows 7 and his system already has the update installed the same one that my laptop seems to freeze everytime trying to install.
Specs on my laptop:
Asus N81VP-D2
Windows 7 Home Premium
T9600 2.8ghz
4GB DDR2 800
320GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
ATI HD 4670 1GB GDDR3
Comodo Firewall
Microsoft Security Essentials Anti-Virus
NO overclocking of CPU or GPU
Same stuff that was installed the day I got it.
My fathers computer is ALSO running Comodo and MES and it is running with no problems whatsoever. Everything on the computer runs great except for that issue I've described above. If anyone could give me advice on what I should do. Please do. Thanks

Find out which update it's running. Then you can try to download and install it manually, or at least search and see if others are having this problem. If you don't really care, and just want the problem to go away, turn off automatic updates.

Thanks, I was able to solve the issue by doing a clean boot. I disabled all of the start up programs except Windows essential programs. Did the update manually and worked.
