I'm planning to reinstall my W7 and use a backup to restore settings and files into the new installation. So I was wondering if I back up my files using Windows Backup, will it restore registry and everything else? Or just files and my user folder?

    Because upgrading W7 from 7264 to 7600 isn't working.
I always get the incompatibility. Damn you MS for not making upgrades available between builds.

Anyone tried this and can confirm, that a backup will work?

    Thanks in advance

So far W7 backup does not work for me. A clean install is the safest route at the moment for W7 installations. It is just an RC ;-)

    cheers ...

    Ah..
I thought update to RTM will be easier. I see I was mistaking.
Well this will be a good time to dual-boot XP and 7.
Anyways thanks for the info, qhn.

Even if you are doing a clean install on a disk that has a previous version of windows, the new W7 installer move all of the old files to under C:\windows.old. So if you care about recovering your data file, just grab it from there. But you would have to reinstall all of your software.
After you are done, you can run the cleanup utility to remove the previous windows files.

Thanks for responding but I already reinstalled.
I just downloaded and moved all my most needed files to another partition and reinstalled them after Win7 installation.

Oh and, qhn, build 7600 is no longer RC. It's RTM.
