dont put a pass word and if you have a dual core laptop go into MSconfig and then boot options then click advanced and then click use 2 processors :)

Don't know if it's the same on Windows 7; still downloading my copy, but have you tried going Start > Run > netplwiz
Might not be the same on Windows 7, but that's the quick route on Vista to get to the advanced user account options where you can disable the requirement for a password etc.

well that could be why .... that little atom is prolly dieing trying to boot that sucker up lol

its a lower end computer .....try disabling some start up services and one way you could make it aLOT faster is a fast SSD like the OCZ vertex the 30 gig version

I doubt that's the only problem. My little NC10 Netbook with the Atom N270 (1.6 GHz) goes from pressing the Power button to the Ctrl-Alt-Delete screen in 26 seconds. I just timed it.

I watched the OP's YouTube. That's too long, though I'm at a loss for explanations. Do you have an abnormal amount of stuff loading? The disk looks like it's churning the whole time.

it was a fresh installation with like 5 program installed on it.. i had AVG, Ad Aware, auslogics defrag and bootspeed.. and firefox.
Right now i removed AVG and it is a bit more quicker to boot up.. but still slow

Here. I just posted a quick YouTube of my NC10 booting Windows 7:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAVgePqRfbU

Same processor as your Aspire, but you can see that it loads far more quickly. Now, my NC10 has 2 GB RAM, but I doubt that that comes into play here. Watching yours boot there is constant disk activity the whole way. What is the performance rating won your disk in Windows 7?

Don't know what to tell you brother. That boot sure doesn't seem right though. Does it seem to run OK after Windows loads? Maybe just never shut it down.

Windows 7 loaded somewhat slowly for me for a day or so, now it always starts in less than 40 seconds. It seems like it did some sort of Boot Optimization, but I don't think that service would run when W7 detects an SSD, because it isn't as necessary.

You shouldn't need auslogics, the new W7 defragmenter includes the ability to work on the MFT and such, making the use of an external defragmenter almost zero, unless you REALLY want to watch the blocks change color.

Edit: I don't really understand why the "checking the number of processors at boot" option works at all. Vista/Windows 7 already use the maximum number of cores possible when booting, checking the box and forcing it to use both cores shouldn't change boot speed, but users report that it DOES speed up boot times. Technically this option is specifically for debugging purposes.

So, in other words, leaving it unchecked (the default) shouldn't reduce system performance in any way?
Reason I ask, is that checking it & selected 4 cores on my QX9300 doesn't seem to make any difference in my boot speed (which is plenty quick as it is).
    Thx.

it kind of made a difference on some of my computers when i check the cores and select 2 or 4 (my acer aspire one i put 2) lol

I have the exact same netbook as you except for the hdd. My rating is 5.4 for the stock hdd.

Anyways.. W7 booted under 25 seconds, sometimes under 20 seconds for me. The hdd is fully loaded (only about 20GB left out of 160GB). I have all of my programs installed..etc I also experience the black screen effect, but the black screen last about 2-5 seconds.

Have all of my programs installed an only have 30Gig left on my 160GB hdd after just 1 day of using Windows 7. Before defrag with diskeeper, Windows 7 boots in about 25 seconds, now after optimization..etc it boots under 20 seconds.

The long black screen wait is probably due to Windows 7 trying to detect external monitors. This problem is well documented on Vista.

BTW.. during the blackscreen, do you hear or notice hdd access? I optimized my hdd so loading drivers ..etc are all sequential read so drivers are loading around 65MB/s. The CPU again is the limiting factor for ultrafast booting.

during the black screen, my hdd light is flashing.
right now i did a fresh reinstallation.. and it boots up a faster.. but i have no anti virus or anything on it.. so that is one major problem..
i tried installing kaspersky on it, and it took like 1 minute and 30 seconds to boot.
Without anti virus.. it takes about 54 seconds to boot.

I don't bother installing antivirus on my netbook. I have 5 computers at home and only one of them have antivirus. I used to use it to scan all the computers through the network every week at midnight. Now, I just don't bother because I never get any virus. Norton Coporate can't seemed to find any virus for the past couple years. Antivirus is a waste of system resource for me.

Anyways.. antivirus will make your netbook crawl. I'm going to uninstall windows defender next week to make my netbook even faster than it is right now.

Good antivirus (examples: Nod32, Norton 2009) will not significantly impact performance on any system, including netbooks. Also, windows defender should be left on your system, it only uses resources during a scan, and those scans take less than five minutes.

    Ofelas:

According to the research I've done, leaving the box unchecked is fine. It is included purely as a debugging mechanism to identify faulty cores in a multi-core processor. Windows automatically attempts to use every core during boot-up. I still don't understand why this has an impact for some users.

    runtohell:

have you tried installing antivirus and then doing 4-10 restarts? After using Windows 7 for a few days (restarting several times for driver updates and tweaks) I noticed boot time go from about 1 minute and 30 seconds down to 30-40 seconds. Try to give the OS a few restarts to see if it can optimize boot speed over a few days. Also try running the built-in defragmenter.

Hi, I have the same problem..black screen with arrow for apprx. 50s.
I am running Windows 7100 RC on older PC (3,4Ghz P4, 2Gb DDR, HDD 160Gb SATA, ATI x600pro 128Mb). Otherwise everything seems to be fine.

I am having the same problem with the load. It takes about two minutes to load. I have the arrow and the black screen for a long time. It runs ok during the rest of the time.

I've also been having these problems.

2GB RAM, 1.83GHz dual core, 80GB HDD (Dell Inspiron 6400). Black screen for 50-60 seconds, works perfect when in windows. Its been happening when I upgraded from XP to Windows 7 BETA, then from the BETA to the Legal Final Release.

I'll try a de-fragment and disk check tonight but I doubt there will be any difference.

    Defragment your boot files.
