I'm trying to move 300gb of movies from 1 HDD(USB) to an external RAID 0 enclosure(esata).

Windows will transfer 1-2 gb then nearly stop. it was transferring @ 20-30mb/s then stops, slows EVERYTHING to a crawl and there it sits...

    any ideas? :(

EDIT: it works fine when the raid HDD is on USB....

Have you tried testing the transfer with your antivirus program turned off?

Mine notebook use to craw when the hdd is defraging or anti-virus is scanning, and i had a i7 quad and the cpu usage was only around 15% , but since i switched to an ssd it runs great, obviously an mechanical hdd is the bottleneck for me.

It sounds like you might need to update drivers for the eSATA controller (assuming it is a JMicron controller or something). Check the laptop manufacturer's website.

It could also be the eSATA controller on the RAID enclosure so check with that manufacturer for a firmware update.

Antiviruses do add an overhead to file transfers, so you could try transferring the files with the AV disabled. Also, you could try using a program like FastCopy (link in signature): it's more reliable for large numbers of files and large quantities of data than the built-in file transfer capabilities.

My guess is the anti-virus is scanning the files while you transfer.

Whitrzac Have you tried changing the write caching setting in device manager (policies) for either drive?
