Interesting - I am not sure, having yet to try any games on my W7 partition.
cheers ... -
LOTRO ran insto some interesting issues when installed on the RTM. Had to run a "verify and fix" in order for it to run, but even then it took a couple of tries to get it up and running. You still can't launch it though the game console, in Vista I had to change it from the TDM to the games Invoker (I use to use this when I ran the game from an external drive for my netbook) to get the game to launch through the game console, but in Win7 I can't or haven't found a way to edit that yet so I have to launch the game through the TDM (Turbine Download Manager).

jamespark, I can confirm that L4D (and just about all Source engine games), Crysis, BF2 and StarCraft all work under Windows 7. Even further than that, I can also say that most all other games I have tried have worked as well. There were one or two that had issues, but those issues were largely present under Vista as well. There are a small handfull of glitches here and there, but I can most likely attribute them to being early stage driver issues. If you do run into issues with a particular game, try posting to that game's official forums, or to the official Windows 7 RC Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . You can usually find some fixes pretty quick that way.

Not only do most of my games run well on Windows 7, many of them run much better than they used to before. I used to get stuttering in Crysis which no longer happens, I used to get slow downs after 20-30 mins play in GTA IV and that no longer happens and I used to be forced to play games from within a Virtual computer environment at a lower resolution than my native one but I no longer have this limitation.
Also my Marvel Ultimate game used to experience bad slow downs if I enabled Advanced lighting and that no longer occurs.
So not only have I found that my system works a lot faster overall, all of my favourite games work better so it looks like I have finally found something that has convinced me to leave XP behind.
Windows 7 is like XP + Vista on steroids. I thought the 32 bit version was great until I tried the 64 bit version and experienced even better performance. -
I've not had any problems with the games I've played on Win7. (Other than World in Conflict and thats an nvidia driver issue anyway, but as thats not on your list I guess you're not interested). CoH, COD4 & 5, BF2, and Crysis all work fine for me.

Every PC game playable on XP/Vista is compatible with Win7, and even if they don't, it's still possible to run them in compatibility mode. Microsoft really improved this feature in 7 compared to Vista

I have found that running Prototype PC in compatibility mode caused quite a bit of slow down. It seems to work fine without any compatibility mode settings so far anyway but just an observation.
When I have the full version of Windows 7 Professional up and running and all of my games installed, I might consider doing another performance thread. I have already noticed so may improvements just from using the RC version so it will be interesting to bench others. -
I will be doing extensive Windows 7 game testing.
