In the lower right hand corner where my power supply icon is, there is now a red 'x' over it and the message "Consider replacing your battery" pops up when you mouse over it.

I'm aware Windows 7 displays this message when your battery capacity degrades to a certain percentage of its original capacity. I'm not planning on replacing my battery anytime soon. Is there a way to disable this message?

Have you tried calibrating your battery?

    To disable the message:

    go to Device Manager
under the Batteries section unistall or disable
Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery

This will stop Win 7 from monitoring the health of your battery.

Hi, thanks for the suggestions. Disabling it worked but it also took the power supply icon out of the action center. I don't know much about battery calibration but I'll look into it. Thanks.
