Nope, I'm pretty sure that made it exclusive to Win10 for exactly this reason...

Too sad you cannot manage to install Win 7 on your computer. Unfortunately I do not have Acer laptop to check if the same problem would occur also to me. Maybe check some Dell laptops or you have to go with Win 10...

Anybody could mod the latest Intel driver for me? I mean the April month version works fine, but , because I going to reinstall the Windows, I'd like the newest drivers.

Check post #28 in this thread, very good youtube clip on how to do it.HutchMcKinney, Vasudev and Atom Ant like this.

That is very nice guide there indeed and so simply. I guess this trick will also work for 8th Gen CPUs, since they use the same HD graphics as the 7th gens.

is the last driver which can be hacked. -
Yes, it seems Intel found out about the hack, so all later versions are Win 10 only...Vasudev likes this.

I found a newer driver on forums.laptopvideo2go.com and it's still mod-able (21.20.16.4821)
http://download.windowsupdate.com/c..._da2fefd2f6d1dbb9402ca12826058a93dd9777bf.cab (untouched, so you still need to mod it)
edit: ah yes, and it doesn't include .exe files so you need to use the "have disk" way or as vasudev say use winaero tweaker.Last edited: Nov 20, 2017 -
Use winaero tweaker to add right click context menu to install cab and msu files directly.Maleko48, steberg, kazafar and 1 other person like this.

I'm glad it helped, but did you manage to install display audio driver? Because I can't seem to install it.

I recently purchased an HP EliteBook 820 G4 configured with FreeDOS (no Windows OS). Windows 7 is no longer an option at the point of purchase for these PCs (it's either Windows 10 or FreeDOS), but I wanted to install Windows 7 on it because my computers at work all use Windows 7.
I purchased Windows 7 retail DVD from a third party and after installation I was given an alert that the processor was unsupported. After doing some research, I discovered that Microsoft is blocking new (7th gen Intel and later) processors from support for Windows 7. This doesn't make sense to me, because Windows 7 is still officially supported until 2020, and my new computer obviously meets the system requirements for Windows 7.
I want to say that I am pretty angry, I think that blocking support from newer processors just to get more people on-board with Windows 10 is a very user-hostile move. I can't return Windows 7 to the retailer since I've opened it, so I don't know what to do at this point. -
Installing Windows 7 on Kaby Lake, Skylake, Coffee Lake and NVME - LIVE

For those of you who have installed Windows 7 on Kaby Lake, are you using WSUS Offline to get updates? Or ziffy's patch?

Seems like Windows 10 - Bloatware Free Edition has just failed. One more reason to stick with Windows 7. As I mentioned before, no matter what we do with Win 10 won't be like Win 7. And when so many tweaks are done to Win 10, it will malfunction, certain things won't work correctly or at all, or use intense CPU power.
So much better to figure out how to install Windows 7, after just drivers (and Simplix Pack) needed!Last edited: Dec 2, 2017 -
I've created an easy to use app for those who are going to install Windows 7 on modern machines. This tool automatically integrates updates and drivers for many devices like USB3.0/3.1,NVMe,wi-fi,Lan and so on to your windows 7 image (ISO or FOLDER)

Thanks for posting. I've added your tool to the guide as an alternative option!
-
A nice tool but only for people needing proper drivers. In my case it wouldn't work cause my laptop doesn't provide any Legacy/CSM options, so any Windows 7 installation will result in BSODs.
Vasudev likes this. -
Did you disable SECURE BOOT? When did you get BSOD? At the very beginning of installation process or after first reboot? What error message did you get?
-
Secure Boot disabled.
The first boot after the installation process. It seems the error has something to do with the missing boot manager. Already tried plenty of solutions but none of them actually fixed the problem. I assume that not all laptops with 7th generation CPU can have Windows 7 installed properly. Most likely the laptop's manufacturer didn't include Legacy Mode with my laptop. We're speaking about Acer VN7-793G. Using NVMe protocol instead of SATA.Vasudev likes this. -
Which NVMe SSD are you using? If its Samsung then download the driver only version from win-raid.com and upon installing W7 use browse driver and give the samsung driver secnvme.infMaleko48 likes this.
-
The one from Samsung. I also tried installing using SSD SATA drive and still got BSOD.
I forgot to mention. I'm using Samsung 960 EVO drive on M.2 NVMe. -
Download the drivers from this link and Use Browse driver option and choose the inf file in the folder.

@Dantei
It would be much helpful if you took a picture of BSOD. I'm really curious what went wrong there.
Few months ago one user successfully installed win 7 x64 after using my app on kabylake desktop pc.
He was also using Samsung NVMve SSD as bootable drive so this means that he was also forced to use non legacy mode. He said that everything went smoothly without any issues.

I managed to install Windows 7 on my 2nd HDD. Used the tool delivered from Atak_Snajpera which seems to helped alot. But now after the installation and the first boot I get the booting logo and it stops. Doesn't go any further.

Does safe mode work?

Just tried using it. It stops at ahcix64.sys.
I'll try reinstalling Windows with Intel Rapid Storage drivers instead of the one integrated.Maleko48 likes this. -
Just installed new intel hd drivers (15.45.23.4860) and it's mod-able even from the official download site. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27360/

I took the latest official. Used the Load driver option.
When using Safe Mode it stops at ahcix64.sys. -
It's weird because I don't even have that file on my two Windows 7 x64 PC. I've scanned whole Windows folder and zero results. Are you 100% sure that you didn't mean ahcix64s.sys ?
Last edited: Dec 12, 2017 -
I made a typo. Yes, it's with ahcix64s.sys.
-
Ok. It looks like windows decided for some unknown reason to install ahci driver for AMD Chipset on Intel platform !!! Very bizarre!
Try this.
1) Delete whole folder in my app Drivers\x64\Others\AMD Chipset
2) Update again whole image using clean untouched win7 image.Maleko48 likes this. -
Deleted the folder, burned a new ISO into USB drive. Installed Windows 7 and now it stops at asstor64.sys. It has to do something with SATA controller AFAIK, at least according to google.

The same as above.
Let's do something radical.
This time go to x64\Storage controllers
and delete everything except Intel AHCI and Samsung NVMe folder. -
I hope we will learn something valuable form these tests

At first I thought it might have something to do with my NVMe drive (Samsung). It would have Windows 7 installed on it but I don't want to lose all my data. First I have to be sure it's gonna work on my 2nd HDD.

What if we have an old laptop (late 2012) to install Windows 7 on where we load up the extra drivers necessary for the new machine (late 2017) and then swap the drive to the new machine?
The late 2012 machine actually has a hybrid BIOS/UEFI but I've never even used the UEFI since the first thing I did was rip Windows 8 out and install Windows 7 when I got it.
Would there be anything to gain from trying to go that route or would it be an equal **** show?
