When I first installed the OS, it said I had all 4GB to use for whatever, but after finishing driver/program installs, I noticed that.
I understand that resources are reserved for system devices, the main one would be the nvidia Geforce 9600m GT that has 512MB of vram, but an entire 1.3GB gone seems quite odd. I don't think its Windows XP mode using the other half of that because I set it to use 128/256MB and it still came up with the same limit, and it seems to stay at that level whether its on or off.
I went around looking for possible ways of fixing this, but I'm not even sure what's causing it to begin with. Sorry if this has been asked before ._.;

What machine are you running this on? What hardware? If it's an older PM945 chipset, you just won't be able to use all 4GB.
You might also check in your BIOS settings for a "Memory Remapping" setting of some sort, and enable it.
Edit: A bit of Googling turned up this: http://windows7news.com/forum/windo...ilizing-4gb-installed-memory/msg4137/#msg4137 -
I'm running an HP HDX18. Either way its all fixed now, that link fixed it quite fast, although I don't remember changing that option when I was in that screen to begin with (It somehow set itself to 0).
Thanks much. Now I don't have to spend another hour doing a reformat. -
Isn't it just the ways of 32-bit?
-
He has a 64bit version installed. It's not a problem with 32bit.
-
Oh yeah, duh, sorry.
-
If he has a 9600M GT, then he probably wouldn't have a PM 945. I think that chipset only supports integrated.
-
CPU-Z Gives me "Intel PM45". Not the same is it?
-
It's a problem with 32bit, an IGP using system ram, and no bios function for remapping memory.
-
945GM is a chipset from 2006 (the first for the 32-bit Core Duo) which has an integrated GMA950. 945PM is for dedicated graphics, but you probably wouldn't see it paired with such a recent graphics card unless it was a desktop PC.
Not the same chipset. -
please post screenshots of cpuz (use v1.52at least) and gpuz.
That info will remove all doubt. -
lulululalala
Windows 7 installed with 4GB RAM, only says 2.97 usable
