My laptop had installed a few updates this morning and when I was prompted for a restart, I did. After getting to the login page, I entered my password and hit Enter.

I have been waiting for at least 15 minutes now, but Windows still hasn't gone to my desktop. I just see the default Windows 7 background with "Windows 7 Home Premium" at the bottom.

I know drivers were loaded since my mouse works. I can also see that indicators for Caps Lock and stuff like that function. Any ideas as to what's going on?

    Thanks.

Try restarting in 'safe mode' or 'last known good'. If that works, try to 'repair' windows...if it doesn't work, reinstall.

Pop in your Windows 7 DVD and use System Restore.
