My installer(CD) of the windows 7 is not original but the license I used was original since I have an account in MSDN-Academic Alliance. Does this make my Windows 7 genuine or not? Because there's been a message that is appearing every time I turn on my laptop that my windows isn't genuine.
What do you guys think?

My windows 7 came on a DVD not a CD. And what do you mean by "not original?" Is is stolen? Not a valid Win 7 install disk? What?

A call to Microsoft should get that resolved

Not original by means that it is pirated. But, like what I said, my license(key) was original because it came from msdn.

The Windows 7 software can be obtained legally on the web or here on NBR at http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...-7-download-links-just-like-vista-before.html. Use the ISO method for making the DVD at the bottom of the first post. There is also a thread with a legal download for Windows 7 with SP1 on this forum but I will let you look for it if you wish.
Now with that said the "Genuine message" from my experience comes from a problem with the serial number (product key), not the software. Some people were selling their extra MSDN keys (they got 10) , which is not allowed and Microsoft blacklisted them. I am not saying that your key falls into that category but JOSEA's post is probably the best suggestion. Give Microsoft a call if you know you have a legitimate key and I am sure you can sort this issue out. -
Thank you for replying deeastman. I can get the Windows 7 on the MSDNAA website and run the .exe but will my files be deleted? I mean, If I run the .exe(W7 Professional) on my laptop which is also running W7 Professional, will my hard drive get formatted? And If I ran the .exe from the MSDNAA, would it guaranteed that my windows will be genuine and the message will stop bugging me?
My product key came from the website MSDNAA. Our school gave us an account so I assume my product key is legit or not pirated, right? I'm not sure if there's a service center of microsoft here in my country though. I live in the Philippines, btw.
Thanks again for your advice. -
If you start the install from within windows, you'll likely be able to install windows again in the form of a upgrade. This'll save your data and settings. Back up your files first though.

Before you start re-installing Windows 7 I would try to call Microsoft as I believe your issue is with the product key (others have had this issue also, not just you). You need only to explain that you are getting the "Not Genuine" message, how you obtained your key, and ask what you should do. You don't need to and shouldn't mention your method of obtaining the software, if asked just say from MSDNAA also, the actual software is easy to legally get, its the product key that is important and is really what you are paying for when purchasing the software.

Thanks deeastman, I appreciate your help. I will try these things out.
