makes no sense. and on top of that. x64 drivers work so i know that i'm using a x64 OS. i payed for my ram to be used not to just chill.

What chipset does the laptop have? 4GB RAM support requires the right chipset and BIOS support, in addition to a 64bit OS.

That's odd. I'm not sure why your system is only able to use 3GB of ram. I have the Win7 64bit and mine is able to see all 4GB. Try and re-seat your ram and see if that helps.

ok i feel relieved. but i can't choose any hotfixes for this. but i guess there's nothing to worry about as long as i know it is still using all me ram.

Looks like your system is reserving some of the ram address space (pci devices, video card etc) similar or exactly what happens if your hardware or software does not support PAE.

You have software covered, and I cant say off the top of my head of the PM45 does past 4gb or not (I think some do and some dont depending on manufacturer/bios) but it could be a reporting error as said above, if thats the case a monitoring program like Sandra or Everest can tell you the ram amount.

My spec standards yes but not all manufactures follow full spec.

even your resource monitor should tell you how much ram is there to use, and you can try to purposly fill your ram up to see if it fills more than 3.xgb

ok here is sandra so i am going to using a different version of windows 7. i don't see how a x64 can only see 3gb of ram. every other os and versions of 7 didn't do this. but i know other systems it has done it on.

Do you have a reset BIOS button on the back of your notebook? If you do, try do that to reset your notebook. If not, see if you can load default or manufacture profiles in your BIOS or if there's a reset BIOS function in the BIOS.

If you didnt come stock with 4gb and you upgraded, fist thing your supposed to do is enter the bios, and save & exit to "refresh" the system with the new hardware.

I have seen number cases where people didn't do this and wondered why they could not see there ram.

Some BIOS's have a weird "memory remap" option that artificially forces the RAM down to 3GB-ish. You may need to look around for something like that and toggle it.

That's a real possibility and as I was reading this thread it's the one I was going to suggest. When I upgraded my desktop fro 4 GB to 8 GB Windows (x64) would not recognize the additional RAM until I changed the Memory Remap option in the BIOS. I'd definitley suggest that the OP check to see if his BIOS has such an option.

there is no such option in the bios. i even reset my bios to default and it's the same thing. i'm thinking about going back to 7077 x64.

Is it not just subtracting the video card memory? Do you happen to have 2 x 512MB video cards (XFire)?

load up an Ubuntu Live CD, and rule out the Bios configuration possibility.

Not sure where you got 7127 from but I downloaded W7 32/64 7100 RC two days ago and it recognizes 4GB with the PM45. Nice that they added the (x.xx GB usable) on the properties page if it's 3.90GB or less with 4GB of RAM. :)

r u sure your video card isn't using that 1 GB? on my older VAIO SZ484N laptop the video chipset (nVIDIA GeForce 8200) had 256 MB of dedicated memory but used upto 1 GB of RAM frmo the total system RAM if I installed th nVIDIA drivers rather than the SONY drivers for the video chipset. so that might be the case also.

PS: When I ran Windows 7 it showed 4 GB out of the box with no updates whatsoever.

mmmmmm i'm not sure but it didn't do it to any other os. and i think i did change the texture memory in the driver to 1024mb instead of 128mb.

Report it to Microsoft, that's what these RC's are for!
