I am hoping to find out how Windows 7 would run on a laptop with 1GB of ram. The processor is a T3200(Merom-2ghz,667Mhz Bus, 1Mb Cache).

I am looking for generic answers like Windows needs xx of ram. Does anyone have experience riunning windows 7 on ram limited computers and if so what it was.

I ran Windows 7 on a Pentium M 1.7ghz (single core) and 1GB DDR ram.

Aero off - it ran pretty much the same as XP. I did a little tweaking by deactivating a few features like search and what not. Also using a usb stick for readyboost helped. But only do this if you already have a USB stick that you are not using. If you want to go out to buy something just buy more ram.

Didn't try ReadyBoost, but I ran the 7000 and 7100 builds on pretty much the same configuration, and it wasn't bad at all. Would still go for the extra GB of memory, though, especially while DDR2 is still relatively cheap.

It's running perfectly on my Mini 5101, stock 1GB ram. I have even Aero running, in basic web surfing it's just fine.

edit: I just tried it with 512MB stick only, works like a charm but lost Aero due not enough shared video memory. After boot 380MB was used, 110MB RAM free. Seems usable all right, even had MS Security Essentials enabled.

Even if the OS does run OK with 1GB, I would still get more memory with the prices the way they are. You will be swapping info between your memory and your hard drive without much memory for the OS to use which means more noise from the hard drive and more defragmentation. The hard drive is the slowest item in a computer system so it is best to keep the usage to a minimum.

As I understand it's not easy to add more memory to a laptop. Now, if it was a desktop...

It actually is very easy to add some memory to a laptop and even a netbook.

I upgraded my Samsung NC10 to 2GB memory for just over 10GBP.

Windows 7 Home Premium runs on it with Aero and all and much haster than XP.

Most laptops it's as easy, or even easier to upgrade/replace memory than desktops. This is a good example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imGzpWZOwEc ;)

Of course there is some exceptions to that rule. Some laptops may have one or both memory slots under the keyboard or like the first Acer Aspire One, under the motherboard so it had to be completely taken apart :D
