I have just gained access to MSDN AA, and thinking about switching every single computer to Windows 7 if possible.
What is the threshold for old systems, where it would no make sense to upgrade the OS?
    I have the following systems:
    1. Samsung NC10 - Atom based, 1Gb RAM with XP Home
    2. Dell d610 - Pentium M 730, 1Gb RAM with XP Prof
    3. Custom desktop with a Pentium E5200 with Vista HP

I would install a 32bit version on the notebooks and 64bit on the desktop.

The only one that I have personal experience with is #2. I installed Win 7 Ultimate on my wife's machine. Same specs. It runs decent enough. Not "wow is this fast!" or "wow is this slow!".

    Hope that helps.

I installed Win 7 on my Samsung X50 with Intel Pentium M 2.13Ghz Dothan, 1GB ram, ATI Mobility Radeon x700 and Intel X25-m. Its pretty snappy but I think the SSD makes all the difference. Finding some of the drivers was a royal pita though

I have Win7 on a Mini9, it should be similar to the NC10.

I have the same comment as Keith. It runs ok, not fantastically, but better than the XP that came on it.

D610, as mentioned, runs it pretty well. The biggest limitation is the video card in my opinion.

The desktop should have no issue whatsoever with it.
