    Hi guys,
I've bought an Asus 1201N and installed ubuntu on it, overwriting the complete hard disk. Turns out the wireless isn't working. I tried to fix it with the help of some forum members, but no avail. Now, I'd like to istall windows 7 on it to see if that fixes the problem. However, the Asus disk is a nonstandard win7 disk. I can't use microsoft's own tool for installing via usb. I attempted make an iso with magiciso, then used unetbootin to transfer it to usb and make it bootable, but right after specifying partitions it prompted me for the disk. As my Asus 1201N doesn't have a disk drive, that failed as well.
Is there any way I could reinstall windows 7 on here? I've got a large enough usb stick, but I'd prefer not to spend 50€ on an external dvd drive I'll never use after that.

    Thanks in advance

You can just use a regular Windows 7 ISO and install that with the CD key from your sticker. It'll just require phone activation.

To make a windows 7 USB stick, just make the stick bootable with diskpart and copy all of the windows 7 files from the ISO over to the stick and you're good to go.

So, I installed a regular ISO and activated by phone (pretty easy really and it only took about 5 minutes). Thanks for the help :)

Trouble is, I'm still not getting the wifi working. In windows 7, where can you see all of the devices present in the unit? I'm starting to think it's a problem with the card itself.

Tried fn, that didn't do anything, and there is no hard switch on the 1201N. It's enabled in bios and everything, I'm kind of stumped at the moment.

You can use Device Manager to see what drivers are installed and what's not working properly. To use Device Manager, do the following:

    1. Press Win+Pause keys.
    2. On the left side click the "Device Manager" link.

The WiFi information should be under "Network Adapters". Expand it, find your WiFi device and double-click it for more information.

Did indeed find it over there, but it's not displaying my wifi card. I took it back to the store, should get it back next week or something :).

I was going to add that the WiFi could also be listed under 'Other Devices' if the driver wasn't installed. Also, the branch should expand on it's own if there is are issues, marked with a yellow or red icon. That doesn't matter now that it's back at the store.

    Good luck.

Silly question I suppose, but did you install your drivers?

Yup, first thing I did after the install. Didn't help though.
