Very good chance as of now, and yes, the economy might push that date back, possibly into next year if things get bad enough.

I'd put money on an August-December release myself. Windows 7 is very nearly complete, just the clean up to go now (which takes a while in itself).

I predict it will be released between this Summer and the end of 2011.

One hell-uv-ah prediction...there's a 99.999% chance that your prediction would be right. :p

Anyhow...i'd be happy if it's out in May...i'm just pressing my luck here.

I have a hunch it will be released by July or August, since Microsoft announced a plan that any computer bought that has Vista pre-installed between June 28th and January 2009 is eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 7.

One could think that Microsoft would release Windows 7 on June 28th with that bit of information.

I am very confident Windows 7 will be complete by this year, because the Beta is already fast and snappy when I used it, all that MS needs to do now is to make it slimmer and more tweaked. I think MS now is in the right path.

RC (I heard no more RC2) - Around April - May
    RTM - End of Q3 2009 / Early Q4 2009
Public Release - Should before or by Christmas

Has the April 10 RC1 date slipped?

Anyhow, I read somewhere not too long ago that the free upgrade to 7 from Vista will be in effect as of July 09' which, going by past history of such free-upgrade programs, could mean that the release to public is merely 2-4 months away from July.

I think MSFT not only will be targeting the holiday shoppers later in the year but also back-to-school; my bet is on an August-September release.

Hope it comesout in 2010. Anything earlier seems like it would be rushed.

RC means Release Candidate. "It's pre-release version, which contains the desired functionality of the final version, but which needs to be tested for bugs (which ideally should be removed before the final version is released)."

Whatever the projected launch date, I highly doubt that Microsoft will announce delays for this OS; Vista taught them several lessons.
