    Hi everyone,

I am unable to upgrade from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 10 on my Dell XPS M1530.

Thus is through the windows update download and upgrade route. Everything goes well till the copying files stage when the system crashes with a Blue Screen. It was a something went wrong and to know more, look for "system exception error not handled".

I have no idea what's causing the upgrade to fail.

All device drivers are up to date, tried it even with Antivirus turned off and any USB devices unplugged (mouse etc).

I have searched online for any suggestions but I'm unable to figure out what might be wrong.

When I do a system check for Windows 10 compatibility, it's all good with no exceptions or programs that aren't compatible.

Any ideas of how can I get the upgrade done successfully?

    Thanks.

Just so you know, "sfc /scannow" also came back clean.

I have tried to upgrade it 5-6 times over the weekend but it keeps crashing at the same point during the upgrade process.

Download MS Media Creation Tool x64, use it to create a bootable USB flash drive with Windows 10 installer on it and upgrade your system from the USB flash drive.

Didn't work! :( Installing from the USB now gives me some "failed during first_boot phase with an sysprep error" (exactly like what is shown here > http://www.techieshelp.com/windows-10-upgrade-error-code-0xc1900101-0x30018/). I haven't had time to try the suggestion in that page. Will try it today or tomorrow to see if it helps. But I don't have any third-party AV except NIS.

I have also seen others say elsewhere that this error is because of driver issues but I have all drivers updated and with the latest versions. Anyone know what this error is about or a sure way to fix it? Thanks.

Try doing disk cleanup, error-checking and defragmentation first, then try upgrading from the USB flash drive again.

Use the media creation tool to download the windows 10 iso file of choice 32 or 64 bit and burn to disk and try install that way .

Once installed and authenticated, never have to input your license no again its on M$ activation server and will self activate

Another benefit of Windows 10 is disk clean up of system files-windows update clean up, that use take forever to complete is fairly rapid.

Your not alone with dell's not upgrading to windows 10, Intel I assume video driver is acting up-blue screen = video driver problem, it needs to be redone for windows 10 or M$ needs to bailout Dell and Intel video driver, like now, yesterday, last week , last month, ect.

File a service ticket with M$ so someone can address this problem. ;)

    Cheers

Thanks, I'll check on that. I haven't had time yet to follow the suggestions. Will try this weekend and see how it goes.

Update (08.27.2015): Tries upgrading through the media creation tool. Still doesn't work and the upgrade process stops abruptly half way through.

PS., I wonder if it's got something to do with the fact that I re-partitioned the drive long back using GParted (like this: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-gparted-to-resize-your-windows-vista-partition/). Hmm...
