This is the only forum I know that I cannot search by thread title? Usually I can find the answer I need that way, so OK, I will start my own thread.
I am trying to install Windows 7 from a USB that I purchase from eBay (Australia). I am using a new & blank SSD at the same time - all I get is a black screen with a blinking cursor at the top left?
I have been at this for hours and tried a few different things; made DVD copies, 1 with VISTA and the other with a CreateBurnISO program and they won't run either. Files look exactly the same on USB and DVD - see pictures.
Tried booting from DVD, with new SSD in, with old HDD's installed, nothing, what is going on?
Is there any other setting in the BIOS that I need to change other than the Boot Sequence?
Thanks, John![]()

Its possible the DVD you got wasn't burned correctly so you can boot off it, and that your computer doesn't support booting from flash drives.
If you got the License key as well, you can just DL another ISO and burn that for your own use, but I wonder how much you paid for that key off ebay. -
So, yes, I probably didn't burn the DVD properly, I am really confused by these Virtual Drives and ISO files
Anyway, the theory was that the USB would install for me; this seemingly simple task of installing Windows 7, which I see people doing on Youtube in 15 minutes, I still have not been able to do in 5 hours now..........
The computer is a DELL 1720, with T7500 processor, 4GB ram, has 5 USB ports, I think it should support booting? Well, yes it does, cause the setting there in the BIOS, doh!
I will move on to your suggestion of download a MS file; yes, I have the KEY number, thanks, John -
If you really want to, you can install without booting from anything, just using the OS you're on right now, you can still clean install I believe.

Where can I get an internet copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit, one that isn't 6 months old and on a torrent site, that is? Is it possible?
Thanks, John -
Borrow a disc from a friend.
Also make sure you have the latest frimware on the drive before you install on it, otherwise it will be a real pain to update with an os installed. -
OK, seems a misunderstanding on my part, as I worked out the USB purchased was not meant to be a BOOTABLE drive, so I prepared another 4GB USB of mine, per the many guides out there on the internet, then drag & drop the files from the Windows 7 USB to my now bootable USB, follow all that?
I did a trial start and got some action, shutdown as I will now install the SSD and it will be plain sailing from now, I hope, thanks to all, and hopefully someone else can learn from this in the future, John -
P.S. Hope your W7 install goes well, if not post back and we will try to help.
Windows 7 will NOT boot from USB or DVD
