Well, I just stripped a copy of Windows 7 x64 Ultimate to save myself some space and resources, but I was wondering if it would be legal to post it here. The copy I used was ripped from my retail DVD and includes a variety of updates and there is technically nothing illegal about it. You, of course, would have to enter your own serial during the installation for it activate. I simply figured this would help those looking for a lite version of x64 Ultimate. If it is, I will upload it as soon as I test it thoroughly and will post what has been removed to prevent compatibility issues. :)

No. You can post instructions on how people can save space with their own Windows 7, but you can not redistribute Windows discs without Microsoft's permission.

If you really want to save space and resources, get a copy Windows 7 Starter edition, problem solved.

nope, it is not allowed to post it here
the only reason that even the untouched links in my post are allowed is because they are hosted by a microsoft distributor

    Understood. Was just wondering.

As for saving space and resources, stripping the copy was more or less to remove unneeded applications and services. I have plenty, but why take up space when there is no need to.

People who think they want to do this should check out things like rt7lite and learn to do it for themselves.

Anyone who downloads a modified version of an operating system deserves what they get. There are plenty of bootleg versions of XP and Win7 that contain some pretty persistent malware.

    Just Say No.

While true, windows 7 starter's disadvantages far outweigh the smaller install size. It's just a bad version of windows.

But that doesn't matter because you cannot buy windows 7 starter edition on its own, so it's a moot point.

Well, that's exactly what was done. I used RT7Lite to cut out unnecessary features that most people would not use. For example, the Windows speech recognition utility is rarely spoken of/referred to and takes up over 1GB--plus, there are better third party alternatives. Regardless, if done right, a stripped install can perform perfectly without any hitches.

Edit: For what its worth, this copy is running pretty well. Fresh install uses less than 400MB of RAM and takes up less than 6.5GB of space. And so far, its completely stable. Not bad. :p
