Hi there,
Could somebody tell me the main difference of W7 x64 over x86?
I know that the x64 let's you handle more memory than the x86 (allegedly up to 4Gb) but is there anything else I should know?
Thanks
PS: If this has been answered before... could you please post the link?![]()

I have always had 32-bit and have just switched over to 64-bit and it is AWESOME!
Good luck with your decision!

There is virtually no reason to stick with 32bit. If you don't know that you need 32bit for a specific reason, you don't need it. There are no user-perceptible differences between x86 and x86_64 versions of Windows, except that the x86 version lets you only use about 3.5GB total (and only 2GB per process) and the x86_64 version lets you use between 16 and 192GB of RAM (depends on the version of 7) and even 32bit apps get a full 4GB of address space, vs. the 2GB previously referenced.

the "only" reason is that the upgrade I am getting from Acer is 32bits and I don't want to pay the retail price on a 64Bits....

You can use the same key on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
-
So, If I install the Vista 64 bits, I can then use the upgrade that ACER is sending me.... well, now that's something...
-
If you use the 32-bit upgrade disc, then you'll have 32-bit Windows 7... not 64-bit.
The same license key will work on either... but you need to obtain 64-bit Windows 7 installation media if you want to run 64-bit Windows 7.
If you want, you can try downloading 64-bit Windows 7 from the links in the thread here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=428068 ... and if the download works then you'll be able to run it using the key that Acer sends you with the 32-bit upgrade. -
Downloading them right now...
Thanks!!!!!
