I just think microshaft is using this to try to scare more people into upgrading to windows 10.

No, 8.1 is being treated as a service pack at this point. Microsoft rules for support have always been pretty clear when it comes to service packs. All you have to do to maintain your support and extend it to 2023 is upgrade to 8.1, not 10.

    Got it .
    Thanks
I've always been on 8.1 and I don't plan on changing anytime soon.

I have been going back and forth on that one... On the one hand I hate 10 and all its spying and garbage but on the other, I'm going to have to get used to it eventually anyway...

Windows 7 has been infected with the same telemetry updates.

You can remove all that stuff from Windows 7/8/8.1 with Destroy Windows Spying:
    http://dws.wzor.net/
    https://github.com/Nummer/Destroy-Windows-10-Spying/releases

DWS also has a Windows 10 mode to stop it there too.

Here is a log output from a recent run on Windows 8.1, to show you what it does:

Then go to Windows 7 but if you want to keep getting security updates those are your choices.

@hmscott ,hmm ill checked, mostly tasks was disabled. exept of Windows media.. its strange becouse i completely delited this service

i have a question, if i delite task is it equal to "disable"?
@Ethrem, Ye , i know. but my point is: if i will miss some features from wi 8.1 or 10 i will install them. But now i am fine with 8.

You're going to be missing the feature of security updates. There really is zero reason not to upgrade to 8.1, it seriously fixed a lot of annoying things in 8 without breaking anything else. Its your choice but you're taking a huge gamble.

Did DWS get rid of GWX, the Windows 10 upgrade feature?

You might want to check with "GWX Control panel", also a great tool for Windows 7/8/8.1.

    GWX Control Panel
    http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/

After running GWX as Administrator, run it as a monitoring tool to watch for MS Update flipping on Windows 10 upgrades, it has happened to me already - then you can go into GWX to turn it off again immediately :)

We also have a thread where Post 1 keeps a list of all the Microsoft KB updates associated with "Telemetry" to uninstall / hide.

Updates to hide to prevent Windows 10 Upgrade / Disable Telemetry
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-windows-10-upgrade-disable-telemetry.780476/

I'm not sure if DWS development is continuing, so watch in this thread for mention of new KB's to remove by hand.

Watch for new DWS/GWX control panel updates as time goes by as well.

@Ethrem, i tryed to upgrade to 8.1. but i has only 8.1.1 iso. (dunno if 8.1 has this kbs integrated too) when i go to instaled Kbs, there was a lot of spyware. and i cant delete them. System said, that this Kbs is a part of system. so i immmedeately roll back from backup.
@hmscott, i am on clean wi8. only kb that i installed was time zones update=) i know that this is a bit dangerous.
thank you for links i will test this software on other home book with has wi10 preinstalled=)
as for now i used O&O shutdown utility. and some customn tuning.
and i can say that wi10 realyy awfull^ two control panels brrrr=/

Isn't the win 8->8.1 upgrade through the MS store?

Windows 8.1 will install itself when you install all recommended updates, reboot, check again, install all updates, reboot, repeat until you don't have anymore updates then run the Windows 10 updates removal tool in the first post in the Windows 10 updates to hide thread (I'm on my phone about to do stuff so I can't grab the direct link right now).

That's how I've done it every time I've done a clean install. You'll know you're on 8.1 when you see the power button icon in the top right corner of the Metro start menu.

As an alternative to the Windows Update, you can indeed get it from the Windows Store but you don't have to.

@alexhawker , you can do it via ISO image.
Just take care: there are is several versions ("core" etc) and it can cause a problem.

Its best to do it from the store because its way easier and thats way you supposed to do it when you upgrade to 8.1 from 8

Btw when you upgrade to 8.1 all of the features from 8.1.1 will be installed too

Some people don't want to use the store. It takes a whole lot of updates to do it from Windows Update but it avoids the hassle of the store.

I never knew that Windows 8.1 installs itself through all of the windows updates. Last time i did a reformat about a year ago that i had to install over 100+ updates and then i was able to upgrade to 8.1 from the store.

Yep it installs 8.1 eventually. Takes a good 5 or 6 reboots and manual updating but it does it every time.
