After much deliberation, I am close to committing to a GT70 ONE which will be used almost exclusively with Adobe Creative Cloud apps like Photoshop CC, Premier Pro CC, InDesign CC etc. My one concern is that I can only now get it with Windows 8, and I see quite a few graphics driver problems involving Windows 8, on the Adobe forums. So I am wondering if anyone has experience using Photoshop on a GT70 ONE with Windows 8? Especially Photoshop CC, which seems to use the GPU differently to previous versions.

Can you update the drivers for a GTX680M directly from the NVidia site, or do you have to do so via the MSI site? This apparently makes a difference with some vendors.

    Thanks for any help.

You can update directly from nVidia. That would be the preferred option. The video drivers on MSI's site are outdated and quite old.

Just as a side option for you - The 0NE model originally released with Windows 7, so the drivers and apps for it are available for Windows 7. You can install Windows 7 on this unit if Windows 8 gives you problems. :)

This thread may be of interest to you if you wish to install Windows 7, or for any other questions you may have: http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/678611-official-msi-gt-70-w-gtx-680m-owner-s-lounge.html

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this sounds like this laptop will be used for professional/business use exclusively. If that is the case, you really should not buy a consumer laptop. Buy a business-class machine, which will come with the appropriate service and support, certified drivers, and, of course, Windows 7. The difference between consumer- and business-class laptops is like night and day.

Thanks guys. First off, I came to this site via the MSI site, and thought I was still in the MSI site when starting this thread, but I guess most of you know a GT70 is made by MSI.

No I won't be using it for games. It just happens to have a great spec for what I want to use it for, and especially for Premiere Pro because of the two SSDs in raid0. A single HDD does not have enough through put for high bandwidth video. The laptop will probably only have about half of the Adobe Creative Cloud apps installed, and MS Office for Powerpoint Word and Excel. But it will still only get occasional use, so I don't want to spend serious money on a dedicated NLE laptop.

I am in New Zealand, and we tend to have to pay more for our kit here, but I can get a decent deal on the GT70.

If I get a laptop with Windows 8, do I have to buy Windows 7 if I want to revert to that OS? I have buddies who run Adobe apps with Windows 8 on desktop systems, so I guess I can work it out. It is specifically driver support that worries me, because of the various references I see to problems on the Adobe forums. This blog post pre-dates Creative Cloud, but is still relevant

If the system has Windows 8 Pro you then have free downgrade rights to Windows 7 Pro. Otherwise you will have to pay for the Windows 7 version you want to install. Windows 8 Pro retail version though does not give you downgrade rights..............
