What is the best start menu replacement for Windows 8?

-I want to be able to search through my programs immediately after pressing the start button, without having to click on the search box with my mouse (the way it is in Windows 7).
-I'd also like to be able to pin programs to the start menu like in Windows 7.

This. The above is probably the cleanest way to make Windows 8 borderline usable. Of course, the very best approach is to use Windows 7...

Matter of taste and choice, but Classic Shell has been great here. Good basics + lots of options to personalize it.

I was using Shell, but after viewing this thread I switched to StartisBack. Works better IMO and looks better. Slightly more simple and looks more like what I'm used to. Really liking windows 8 so far.

Thanks tijo, downloading Start is back. It's a much better deal than Start8. A 5 PC license is only $5. :)

I went ahead and bought the Startisback 5 PC license. I configured it where I have the best of both worlds. I got back the Windows 7 start menu and if I press the Windows key it pulls up the Windows8 start page.

For those that are using Start8 by Stardock, have you figured out a way to do this? :hi2:

Classic Shell is the best out of them. It lets you customize and add any program to its start menu.
