I have a WD Passport external HD and windows 8 won't recognize it. Says the device may have malfunctioned. Installed the latest drivers from WD, but I'm not sure how recent they are. Works fine on Win7. What can I do to get the HD recognized by Win8?

Called WD. They say the Passport is incompatible with Windows 8. That seems rather ridiculous

Put all data on the external somewhere else temporarily, format the drive in disk management and you should be good to go.
