am I reading correctly here on the forums some say that if you have a win 8 pro key you have the downgrade rights to Windows 7 Pro? and same thing with Windows 8 to Windows 7 Home premium for example?

So if one buys a Windows 8 machine, he can use that product key to install Windows 7 and activate it just fine?

I have a Windows 8 Pro upgrade key on my previous ASUS G75VW and now I am getting a Windows 8 G75VX laptop so I was wondering

I thought that only Pro gave you downgrade rights.

I think M$ has to be involved for a new key but there is another issue. If the Win8 pro key is an oem key for the g75vw it then is supposed to be specific for the machine. You then by EULA should not be using it on the g75vx machine................

ummm, this is kind of confusig, I bought an ASUS G75VW laptop last year so I used the MS Offer to pay 15$ USD and got an upgrade to Win8 Pro

so is that key I got a retail or OEM Key? I would think it's retail since the upgrade was bought right?

The upgrade key that you got for 15$ is usable on any computer you own running Windows 7 initially. I don't know if it's transferable, but I would assume that it is, it is however only an upgrade and requires an install of xp, vista or 7 on the computer in order for it to work.

I dont believe that is 100% true, as I have installed Win 8 Pro on the same notebook after formatting (fresh install that is) and the key still worked and activated
