Windows 8 Setup Can't Connect Right Now - Key locked out from trying to get Win 8.1 ISO??

I've been trying to set up Windows 8 and have a legitimate product key that I obtained from an upgrade program when I bought my laptop a couple of years ago but just haven't used yet. In my quest to use the various work arounds found on the internet to get the Win 8.1 ISO from just the Win 8 product key so I can do a fresh install, something has gone wrong and now I can't even download Win 8 from that "upgrade to windows 8 using a product key only" site.

At first the Windows 8 installer would work perfectly fine after I input the product key and it even began downloading. However, I would close this out and load the 8.1 installer per the instructions on how to obtain the 8.1 ISO and it never worked. Then when I went back to using the Win 8 installer, I get the message "can't connect right now" after I input my product key. I tried this for several hours and even tried it on my girlfriend's laptop with no luck. Also I deleted the hidden folders in ESD and local app data MS folders with no luck.

What's worse, I was on the phone with a Microsoft representative for over an hour yesterday and she used remote access to try to install Win8 for me and she could not figure out what the issue was. She said my product key is completely fine but she has no idea what's going on. I kept telling her that I believe the key has been locked out from me trying to install Win8 multiple times in a short period of time but she kept saying that is incorrect, and she verified that there is nothing wrong with my product key. She said she will call back today with an answer. I feel like I tried literally everything. What is happening??

 

Not sure, but maybe try doing things the normal way next time. Installing 8 and upgrading to 8.1 isn't particularly painful.

Just wanted a fresh install, nothing wrong with that and MS certainly should not be making it this hard. I have a legitimate key. Why can't I freshly install something that I would get for free if I installed Win 8? Their constant lack of being able to cater to the consumer is outstanding.

And if I didn't make it clear, I now CAN'T do things the normal way as I can't even install Win 8 anymore. It just says can't connect right now after I put in my product key.

 

So here's an update. Another rep remotely accessed my laptop and downloaded the ISO and installed Win8 for me. I now have 8.1 after the update and everything is activated and good to go.

However, I am STILL unable to download the windows 8 ISO after I put in my product key from that product key only MS site. Same "can't connect". How can I get a freaking ISO?? I have to re-install this version because it wasn't a clean install as the guy just ran it from my desktop, leaving a ton of my old files on the hard drive.

 

I would try again in a few days... You never know if they are in process of replacing the old 8.1 U1 ISO with the newer U2 ISO...
