Yes with a 3rd party application. Who wants to do that on a new OS?

What do you mean by "now"? These kinds of programs have been available for years, and have been used with Windows 8 for months. And a Good Morning to you.

Hmm, yes, we're making progress. Maybe by next spring we're going to have a decent and fully functional Start Menu, have gotten rid of that useless Metro garbage entirely, and maybe we'll even get Aero back.

Also on my to-do list: sell my Civic Si, buy a WRX, and then replace piece after piece after piece until it looks and drives like a Civic Si.

W8 is no WRX, give me a break.

I will trade my corvette in for a honda fit, then figure out how to make the fit run like my old vette did.

Did you know that if you don't like Windows 8, you should keep using Windows 7? It's not like Windows 7 won't be available the day Windows 8 drops. You can still get Windows XP, a decade-old version of Windows, on sale on Amazon.

If you want Windows 7, use Windows 7. If you want Windows 8, use Windows 8. Don't choose to get Windows 8 and then do everything you can to make it less like 8 and more like 7, bellyaching all the while about how it's not just like 7 anymore. Seems simple to me.

The desire to turn Windows 8 into Windows 7 baffles me. If Windows 7 is better in your mind, why not just use Windows 7?

Do you understand that the changes from Win 7 to Win 8 go deeper than the GUI?

I'll certainly jump at the chance to use a less secure, unsupported OS.

Windows 7 is going to be supported, security wise, for some time.

Yeah, I don't get that comment. Given Microsoft's prior track record, Windows 7 should remain supported until at least after Windows 9's release, possibly longer (just look at how long MS kept supporting Windows XP, even after the release of Vista and then 7). It's not like Windows 7 becomes unsupported the moment Windows 8 drops.

XP and Vista are still less secure than Windows 7, despite the release of security updates.

    Windows 7 more malware-resistant than XP/Vista | ZDNet

And XP and Vista are basically done in terms of driver support.

No matter what, you can't hold out forever. Why you continue to insist that remaining on Windows 7 is a viable long term plan is beyond me. It's not like Windows 8 is a parallel version to Windows 7.

For the umpteenth time in a Windows 8 thread: let's avoid the personal attacks. Thanks.

My comments were aimed primarily toward Microsoft's support for Windows 7. Yes, OOB, Windows 8 is more secure, but that does not mean Windows 7 is going to suddenly be neglected.

I don't think anyone said it would be sudden. And Microsoft's support is not the only support that matters.
