but now we see it IS possible -
Yes with a 3rd party application. Who wants to do that on a new OS?

When samsung did it .. then everybody .. -

Nice start screen bypass software. works on RTM
WinAero: Skip Metro Suite -

Also on my to-do list: sell my Civic Si, buy a WRX, and then replace piece after piece after piece until it looks and drives like a Civic Si.

I will trade my corvette in for a honda fit, then figure out how to make the fit run like my old vette did. -

If you want Windows 7, use Windows 7. If you want Windows 8, use Windows 8. Don't choose to get Windows 8 and then do everything you can to make it less like 8 and more like 7, bellyaching all the while about how it's not just like 7 anymore. Seems simple to me.
The desire to turn Windows 8 into Windows 7 baffles me. If Windows 7 is better in your mind, why not just use Windows 7? -
Do you understand that the changes from Win 7 to Win 8 go deeper than the GUI?

XP and Vista are still less secure than Windows 7, despite the release of security updates.
Windows 7 more malware-resistant than XP/Vista | ZDNet
And XP and Vista are basically done in terms of driver support.
No matter what, you can't hold out forever. Why you continue to insist that remaining on Windows 7 is a viable long term plan is beyond me. It's not like Windows 8 is a parallel version to Windows 7. -
and anyway you saiyn years.. and been just bublished on tuesday ? so who was sleeping then ?
EDIT : I was thinking why everybody actually moaning about metro am really getting used to it pretty fast and you can delete all unnecessary things and add same what is or was in old start menu .. And when u use right click on left down corner u have all items there available .. -
For the umpteenth time in a Windows 8 thread: let's avoid the personal attacks. Thanks.

My comments were aimed primarily toward Microsoft's support for Windows 7. Yes, OOB, Windows 8 is more secure, but that does not mean Windows 7 is going to suddenly be neglected.
