If I've got Windows 7 recovery media, and I buy Windows 8 online from Microsoft, is there an option to make a Windows 8 install disk so that I can later do a later clean install? Or do I use my Windows 7 recovery media and then download the update to Win 8 from Microsoft each time I do a clean install?

Yeah, you can make a Windows 8 disc. You'll have the choice to download the ISO at least that's what the Windows 8 Upgrade offer site says:

"You can create your own installation media on a USB or DVD. During the installation process you are presented with an option to: “Install now, Install by creating media, or Install later from your desktop”. When you select “Install by creating media”, you will be presented with the options to create USB or DVD installation media."

I did this same process and did a fresh install of Windows 8 on my SSD...didn't really care for some features and went back to Windows 7...flash forward a week and I am installing on my spare 500GB raid drive that came in my computer and it is telling me I am not eligable to do a clean install it has to be an upgrade and i can't activate windows....which strikes me as odd because this is exactly what I did last time and it worked last time on a clean install.
