As we know, Windows 8 doesn't let users boot to the desktop and that's been one of the complaints of Windows 8 on non-touch devices. Interestingly, some pundits have said that Microsoft will eventually bring this option back because the corporate world won't accept Metro on boot. If the first thing employees see in the morning is the latest news, sports scores, weather, their Facebook updates, Tweets, and the newest games on Windows store, nothing would get done. So how important is this feature to you?

Absolutely useless to me. I use programs that do real work like word, excel, quickbooks, etc.

I think you mean the opposite of what you said?

    Me too!

I installed Classic Shell and now it does boot to the Desktop,I can almost pretend Metro is not even there.....almost.

If you can't trust an employee to click on Excel's tile on the start screen instead of clicking on Angry Birds, you probably couldn't trust them to launch Excel instead of Facebooking in Windows 7.

It'd be nice to have, but I wouldn't be holding my breathe or holding myself back from purchasing Windows 8 if this feature isn't implemented.

I hope they do implement boot to desktop but it won't stop me from buying Windows 8 in the mean time.

It'd be nice to have that option but it's not a deal breaker for me.

What's so hard about an option to boot to desktop? Microsoft, please add this feature to Windows 8 now! It annoys me to have to click the desktop icon on the lower left every time.

I don't see it as an issue either way, since the Start screen is quite useful as implemented in W8. In any case, I think the option can't hurt either.

Seriously people loves to find excuses to complain.

Can anyone link a review or something about "Does it worth to upgrade from Win7 to Win 8"?

Why don't you start that as a thread?

At this time I haven't found any reason from a business productivity standpoint to upgrade. I am an early adopter and like its "coolness" factor, but for my business day, I haven't found anything yet that is necessary or even desirable.

Now once I get a 60 inch wall mounted touch screen like on Hawaii Five-O, than I will say that the upgrade is definitely worth it.

According to the Wall Street Journal's article, businesses that have been early adopters of Win 8 (most notably 20th Century Fox) are doing it because of the ability to use metro apps either as sales tools during face-to-face meetings with customers or for intra-business use.

i dont mind the new w8 interface .. but im a sucker for gui's so thats just me .. i would love to have a boot to desktop option. but i hardly thing ms will implement it as they are going towards the unification of interfaces over there different platforms (tablets phones and pc/laptops). u cld easily circumvent them though usin classic shell and other apps out there :p

But adding a "boot to desktop" option wouldn't actually add efficiency, even for people who exclusively use desktop programs instead of metro apps. When you boot to desktop (either in Win 7 or in a modded form of Win 8) what's the first thing you do? Open a directory or launch a program. Thing is, either way, you don't actually use extra clicks with a stock form of Windows 8.

Launch a pinned program? With "boot to desktop" feature, you'd click once on a program in the taskbar and launch it. With Win 8 in its current form, you'd click one on a program pinned to the start menu to launch it. Equally efficient.

Launch a program with start search? With "boot to desktop" feature, you'd hit the start key and start typing. With Win 8, you'd just start typing. Marginally more efficient without boot-to-desktop.

Open a directory? With boot to desktop, you'd either click on File Explorer in the taskbar and start navigating, or you'd right-click on it and select a pinned directory from the jumplist. With Win 8 in its current form, you'd click on one of the frequently-used programs you've pinned to the taskbar. About equal either way.

honestly i like the new metro interface. Once u get used to it its easy to switch between screens and multi tasking. I just want the default apps to be more refined/ advanced. The messenger app blows and is annoying to use and mail is too simplistic. but for everything esle i enjoy it.... i am on desktop most of the time tho even though its only to use chrome and games.

Doesn't bother me one bit. I just leave the desktop tile as the first tile in my Start Page and just hit the "Enter" key on the keyboard to get to the desktop once booted if I need to see the desktop right away.

Mine does boot to Desktop. I get the win8 Overlay screen with date and esc out of that and do my fingerprint or logon and what comes up is the Desktop not the MetroUI screen.

honestly i dont get what the big deal is... its 1 click/button press away.... i can see there being a problem if u had to run a program that interfered with metro but i dont think there is one yet

Since I don't have any use for the Start screen yet, I prefer going to the desktop directly.
