My laptop is fairly new, got it Last Christmas. Now recently i noticed when I drag simple applications such as AIM or Internet Explorer around my desktop the shapes lag behind by a great deal. I look at my CPU Usage and when idle its around 15% but when I do something as simply drag an icon around my desktop it shoots up to 70%... Is this lack of memory? or anyone have an idea on what is causing this. I'm running on:

    2.4ghz intel c2duo
    2gb ram
    8700m GT video card

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Clean install would help A LOT.
Also what brand is it? model? etc.?

    Sager 5791 Model

Also i've noticed scrolling down web pages seem to lag behind too.

Is a clean install just popping in the Vista Disc again and re-installing?

I'm not sure how it works with Vista but it's at least a few hours with XP. You reinstall the OS, do the updates, download and add your drivers, download and update your programs, configure your programs, etc, etc etc.

When you get a chance, you should look at a back up strategy. If you save your fresh install configuration with drivers and updates and one with all your programs installed to another drive it's much easier. Take less than 1/2 hour.

I'd also suggest separating your Data (D: My Documents) from the OS (C: ). This way, you can just reinstall the OS

You MIGHT be in power saver mode :p

That happened to me on my laptop and it took me a few days to figure it out.

No kidding, some of the simplest things take the longest to figure it out. Fresh installs are a last resort.

I was indeed in Power Save mode... DOH

I usually keep my laptop on sleep so I rarely turn my computer actually off. I've had this problem for a while now but every now and then not all of my task tray icons appear on the lower right corner. This time the battery icon wasn't located so I never thought of that >:O
