    I just purchased a new Zv5420 (5240?) and it came pre-loaded with Windows XP Home. I want to reformat the drive and install Windows XP Pro. I know the manual makes it sound like the world ends, but I wonder why.

    Has anyone else done this without any problems??

    I've reformatted my dell, and the only problem is making sure that you have all the drivers necessary.

    GPU cooling (100°C->75°C)* Inspiron 8600 * 1.8ghz Pentium M * 128 MB Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo (337/242 -> 400/300) * 2x256 MB DDR2700 SDRAM * Aquamark 3: 24058 * 3DMark'03: 3404 * 3DMark'01 SE: 13120

    I've reloaded an HP NX7000 after I got it (XP Pro to XP Pro) and everything worked fine. As what Andrew suggested, make sure you burn all the available drivers for your notebook on a CD before wiping the drive, otherwise it will be a LOT more difficult to finish the install.
