    WD won't update anymore. I have the little warning icon in my taskbar now. Every time I try to update I get "Error found: Code 0x80240029"

    Any ideas what's causing this?

    Greetings - I don't get that error code but it will not update. Saw another post & posters there speculated this is a Vista bug. I'm using an OEM version of Vista Premium and I'm stuck in the same loop - can't update Defender so I keep getting the taskbar warning. Like others have said - Vista appears to be ME2...

    If you have Windows Vista installed, and the original install disc, insert it and run sfc /scannow. You have to run sfc inside a Command Prompt window with administrator privileges.

    rumor that it is an error when vista encounters illegal serial nummer - only a rumor

    try this:
    1) access Windows update in the start window
    2) -> "change settings"
    3) check "let me choose whether to install them"
    4) uncheck "update MS products" if u have it
    5) go back to the first page and manually install the update
    6) check defender (run a manual scan) to be sure that it is now ok
    7) put ur update back to automatic (if u want)

    cheers ...
