Another student in my class had DreamScene on his notebook with Vista Ultimate. I found out that DreamScene is an Ultimate only feature, and any "workarounds" haven't been successful. Is there a third party freeware app similar to this? It's kind of a novelty thing, but pretty cool though if you ask me.

Man, you've got to check out the Dreamscapes at stardock.com!

They have hundereds, if not thousands of great dream files to choose from.

I have it as part of their Window blinds package and it's incredible.

Here is a link to their Dreamscapes page:

I got the VLC version to work, but it has its caveats for sure. One, the latest (non-beta) release is quirky in skins mode. Whenever I close VLC, it leaves 3 icons in the system tray. In traditional mode you can't minimize to system tray only. I can't get the command line to work to open the file either.

Anyone know if Windows 7 will have anything like DreamScene?

I don't think so.. unless it's in Microsoft "mystery feature" for Ultimate edition. (the way I see it, is that they realized the bit-drive encryption is not worth the extra cost of Ultimate (especially that their are free alternatives), so at the last minute they are MAYBE adding something)

Well, why wouldn't they add something like DreamScene if not use the existing one maybe tuned a bit?
