Ok, so I messed up my Ubuntu kernel again by experimenting to much![]()
So instead of loading back up, I decided to load Vista RC2.
I changed the ext32 to NFTS, and keep the swap as is.
So, now I'm dual booting Vista & XP via Windows Bootloader.
Vista RC2 is MUCH MUCH smoother and FASTER than RC1I can actually see my self using it alot. I still not tested everything yet, like the much needed replacement for active sync that is now called Sync Center. I know it didn't fully work in RC1. I did not test norton virus, as it didn't work in RC1 so I'm using AVG free edition.
I'm able to share between Vista & XP files easy as both partitions show in both OS. My memory usage is about 500+ with explorer open at any given time. IE7 on Vista is still better, even more than the recent non-beta release on XP. Or maybe it's the OS it self.
I hate the stupid watermark on the bottom right side, but it doesn't bother me much.
I'm starting to load up on alot of programs now.
If anyone wants me to test out a program on vista, let me know.

I dont think there is any point in buying the basic version. If your system is not capable of running Aero, then your system wont run Aero and will only run in the basic mode. As for as the battery impact of Aero, it is minimal and havent noticed any drastic decreases in battery life as recent article suggested. If you get the Premium - it is capable of running in basic mode and still have the extra features turned off, so if and when you upgrade or buy a new system you can still use the Premium and use all the features.
There are some screenshots of the basic interface here...

Does anyone know WHEN and WHAT happens when Vista RC2 expires on your pc?
-
You probably wont be able to login. -
Thanks, GREAT NEWS!! I expected it to be MUCH sooner like 3 mths at the most. -
Security on Vista is a monster. It will be hard to get a virus or any servere spyware at the moment using Vista due to the fact you must confirm almost everything.
It's a great thing but I had a few problems try to move exe files from one folder to the next. It would ask to make shortcut on desktop but would not move to another folder. I had to fiddle around with ALOT of security settings to move file. (even disabling everything doesn't work, it has to be the right combination of settings).
But overall I'm using Vista more than XP for broswing the web. Most apps work on vista. Vista just seems so much faster & smoother. Maybe because it didn't let so much garbage into the reg? Who knows.
Even games work fine. (I tried SWAT 4, DDDpool & DOOM 3).
My Kensington Bluetooth USB Doogle drivers seems to screw up after restart.
It also seems to screw up antivirus avg. I reinstalled with avast antivirus. I like avast much better than avg. I plan to try reinstall my bluetooth again. This time I will make sure to create a restore point right before, instead of dealing with a restore 12 apps ago or dealing with "last know config" option.
Firefox installed ok but I really haven't been using it on vista. Bittorrent, trillian and poppeeper works flawless. All major media players work flawless.
I like sidebar now, they don't have many widgets to choose from or even download ....but they do have the most important ones that I need and fills up my sidebar.
I still haven't got use to startup not expanding. They should make this an option. Maybe they is one. -
i was wondering when it expires and you bought vista if you could just enter serial or do you have to do a fresh install??? -
But being that fact that vista beta is watermarked, that alone give me a guess that I will need to fresh install.
This is just IMO tho. -
I would use Vista a lot more if it weren't for the fact that my university's wireless security client doesn't work in Vista. Now granted, this isn't entirely Microsoft's fault, but I hope they can rectify this by the final release. Either that, or the university is gonna have to get on the ball and do some work, otherwise people getting new laptops and can't connect to the wireless will be very unhappy.
Overall, yes it is much more secure than XP. UAC gets annoying at times, but it's nowhere near as bad as it was in Beta 2. I have still never been able to get F.E.A.R. to play correctly. Other than that, I would probably use it much more often. I don't think I'll be getting rid of XP for a long time now though. -

What problems have you encountered with your bluetooth dongle, I use my bluetooth mouse and my bluetooth wireless headset in vista with no problems.

I had problems with an IR receiver via USB. BSOD on every startup, until I unplugged that device.
But since XP is still my main OS, I was getting tired of the bootloader defaulting to RC2. Sigh...I just can't win.
-
I'm still on RC1 and it seems to be working pretty well. No major issues. Although Trend Micro requires reboot after every update.
-
This has only happen to me three times, Twice with RC1 & once with RC2.
I will try again with RC2, this time I have Avast virus installed. Crossing my fingers and creating my restore points. -
Nope
My Bluetooth dongle doesn't work on Vista yet. It really crashed this time, and I couldn't even boot vista again. Kensington drivers are not friendly with vista. I guess the final release will fix that. Hopefully.
Oh well, I didn't really need it on vista anyway. I only use it for activesync on XP and maybe to transfer a picture every once in a while.
I reloaded Vista and all is well again -
KUDOS TO ADOBE FOR THIS .......RUNS FAST TOO
-
FoxitReader works flawlessly under XP and vistaRC2
cheers ... -
^^^True, I like Foxit too.
Now, only if there were a FREE Pdf Editor. -
I cannot get my Acer cam to work on vista. I tried many programs but I always hangs when I select cam. I even tried reinstalling driver, etc etc:
I tried a USB Intel cam and it worked just fine.
Does anybody else with a acer cam have this problem with vista. -
Very Stupid Update but I just noticed that ....
Default Folders like Pictures, Music, etc: are no longer under the Documents.
I always hated that for some reason, What a pleasant change -
UPDATE YET AGAIN ........LOL
Very KOOL!!!!!!
I noticed that with the Windows Volume Mixer (the one on the system tray)
You Can set Volume for each website and program that is running.
For EX: if you just want to hear a website and turn down your media player or vice versa. etc:
Hear is a Pic to better understand...............
