I have 2 notebooks: Lenovo X60s and Lenovo X61s
X60s: 2 x 1GB RAM: Windows Experience score for memory: 5.3
X61s: 2 x 2GB RAM: Windows Experience score for memory: 4.8
Why does the newer, faster machine with more memory have a lower score?![]()

Because WEI doesn't really test RAM amount.
It only tests the RAM speed... and then deducts points if the amount is under 1.5 gb or something.
EDIT: Apparently it actually just caps the score if the RAM amount is 1.5 gb or less: http://windowsvistablog.com/blogs/windowsvista/pages/458117.aspx
Apart from that cap, it's just a memory speed test, not an amount test at all. So going from 2 gb to 4 gb shouldn't change the score at all, if the RAM is the same speed.
But I think the scores can also be affected by other processes running on the system. In general, I wouldn't pay too much attention to the WEI score, except as a very basic test of whether the computer can run Vista or not. Subtle changes may not mean much of anything.
"Windows Experience Index" - lower score on system with MORE RAM?!
