I have a dell desktop with windows 7 that i bought last year. It is very slow i noticed and then i put the windows 7 reinstallation cd to make my computer new again. However, i did not format my hard drive. I noticed that after i had reinstalled windows, i only have 360gb free out of 451gb. My hard drive is 500gb. I noticed that windows backuped all my files in this folder called windows.old.
This folder is about 62gb. My question is if i delete this folder, will my computer be as fast now as if i had formatted the harddrive in the beginning? I really wanted to know, if i had formatted my hard drive and wiped it out and thus if i did that, i wouldn't have anything backed up, would that mean it would be faster than it is right now. I know if i did that, then i probably would have around 422gb free out of 451 as oppose to 360gb free. Would deleting that file be the same or would it be slower than if i formatted my hard drive in the first place?
Because i'm considering reinstalling windows 7 again and wiping the hard drive clean so everything is real fast and worried now that since i didn't delete the hard drive, it isn't quite as fast? By the way, i already backed up everything into a usb drive already so at the moment, the backup files saved in my desktop is not neccessary.

You should wipe all OS partition using fast format to have the best speed. Also I really suggest you to create 2 partitions if you still do not have them. 1 for OS and 2-nd for everything else. So next time you will have no headache uninstalling Windows. If you need help in this or additional questions or if you want to know some other advices you can PM me.
