I have Windows Live Messenger on my startup. Only problem is, everytime I boot up, I get a Windows Live Installer that updates and loads for about 10-15 seconds. Not a problem, but really very annoying.
Any probable causes for this?

Go to msconfig from startup > run
uncheck "messenger" or windows live messenger or anything thats description / file location lies in windows live messenger / msnmessenger..
Also, you can check in services.msc from startup > run and look for windows live setup service and see if its in automatic... if yes, change it to manual.
Hope this helps. -
Yep, I do have messenger on my startup, which I do intend because I use it on a regular basis. My problem is that the installer comes up everytime, and updates and installs and what not for a couple of seconds everytime.
Actually, this is not limited to just startup. If I close messenger and then open it again, it does the same thing with the installer coming up and doing its stuff... -
I had the same problem. It was a registry perrmission thing in my case. I got the administrator rights for that key, and it never came back. Sometimes it even happens with MS Office.

Thanks for the reply Silas! So, what exactly should I do to get rid of the problem?
-
Do you get an error message at the end of the shebang that the installer does, like key not found, or can't be accessed?
-
Nope. It just completes the updates.

Anyone has any ideas at all?

Try uninstalling and reinstall WLM, and make sure you're using an admin account. It seems to me that some files weren't copied properly.

Hi all! Sorry for digging up this really old thread! I've been living with the problem for the last 3 months now, but I think I really should find a solution to this. Stewie, I've tried reinstalling, but it doesn't help.
Anyone has any other ideas? Cause this is really pretty annoying as it takes almost a minute each time. -
Run msconfig and copy down all Windows Live related entries. Then post them here for us to look at.
