Just got an email from Microsoft to download Live Mail. I currently use Outlook Express on XP for my Verizon & MSN email accounts. Do you think it would be worth it to go with this Live Mail?

I have no problems with OE, but since it was dropped from Vista I'm wondering if I should go with Live Mail now or just wait until I'm actually using Vista as an everyday machine. What do you think?

    :)

Um, Windows Live Desktop is, in all actuality, Outlook Express 7.0. If I was using OE I would upgrade. I use Office Outlook though, tee-hee.

Are you asking about Windows Mail as included in Vista or Windows Live Mail Desktop beta which is going to replace the Windows Mail in Vista and being renamed as Windows Live Mail?? if the latter then wait for a while until they sort out the product. WLMd is ad supported whereas they did announce that the next version renamed as Windows Live Mail wont include ads. I currently use WLMd and it is a pretty decent client with better spam filters and classier UI.

Wow, I had no idea it was actually the next version of OE. I thought it was just something they put out to get rid of Hotmail. Thanks! :)

Yeah, I used Office Outlook 2007 for a while when it was in beta. It was okay, I guess I'm just more used to the dumbed-down version called OE. ;) :D :D

I looked at the email again to be sure, and now I'm confused. It says Windows Live Hotmail. How many types of email programs does Microsoft have today?

I now assume this is different than the Windows Live Mail (Desktop) you guys are referring to?

Well, Windows live mail desktop(currently in Beta) is going to become Windows Live Mail which is going to replace Windows Mail(Vista). It is also going to support XP but wont replace OE but will co-exist with it.

Windows Live Hotmail is just the new name for the Hotmail web based email service.

Oh, it is web based. Bleh. I guess I'll stay with OE until the Live Mail Desktop is out of beta then. Thanks for the help guys! :)

I've been using the Windows Live Hotmail since it started in beta. I've never had any problems with it.

I guess you can either go with Office Outlook or try the Live Mail Desktop beta that they mentioned above.

I would not be able to use Vista's Windows Mail anyway, as my provider uses an http mail server (which Windows Mail conveniently does not support, unlike OE).

I had problems with Windows Live desktop beta. It would hang too long alot of times when I send a email. I had other minor problems too.

Back to good ol' POPPeeper. Simpler is better :)
