I want to view my pictures in fullscreen on windows live photo gallery, and it seems that the only way to do that is with the slideshow mode.
however the image quality in slideshow mode is extremely poor... it appears that all the pictures are compressed or something...
does anybody know how i can fix this?

the images are all either in my monitors native resolution or higher

i know i could just download some other programs but i dont feel like installing extra programs just to view my photos...

Granted that you do not want another program just to view the photos, but it is good to have that extra prog as a tool to verify that the issue is not within the pics themselves.

Got your drivers up to date?

    cheers ...

    I agree.

It's like, "My kid's photo didn't come out good.". It's not the camera's fault that the kid is ugly!

what resolution are the photos being uploaded? Perhaps they are being downsized when uploaded to the site?

    this is all local

windows live photo gallery is the replacement for windows photo gallery(vista) which was the replacement for windows pictures and fax viewer(XP)

i think it may switch resolution and then look blurry. i've seen the gallery doing that from time to time. another problem can be colour profiles who mess up your system. have seen that once on my pc and thought my screen sucks :)

Back up your registry key before you do this.

    Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Photo Gallery\SlideShow

Right click and create a new DWORD value called "WinSATScore". Give it a decimal value of 500 for full screen.

If you do get fed up and chuck it, the Picasa 3 photo viewer is pretty good (it's a separate thing from the main program).

I know of this... for some reason, even Vista Picture Viewer, in Full Screen Mode, will decide to use compressed versions of the pictures even if they are at a native resolution of the screen.

Windows (live) photo gallery sucks in slideshow photo quality. I thought my camera was bad at first. Then after viewing in Picasa, the photo was really good.

Silas, the Outreach teams are indeed real. We've already had a few of their people come on here and help out and explain things.

i mainly just want this function for quick viewing, thats why i dont want to install additional programs like picasa

sometimes when im browsing my computer, if i see a picture, i might want to just quickly view it in fullscreen, and then close it

i dont want to have to wait for an entire application to load just to view one picture

is there any way to get windows picture and fax viewer on vista? cause that would be perfect for my needs

I think you load an entire application in Windows Live Photo Gallery now anyways, unless you meant a 3rd party application.

Picasa3 has a photo viewer that loads very quick, it's much like Windows Photo Gallery. It doesn't load the whole picasa program, just the picture you clicked on.

I finally found the fix to this problem (With Windows 7) with the help of a lady from Microsoft. It took a month to finally figure things out. Here is the thread that I started on Microsoft Answers:

    http://social.answers.microsoft.com...b1-5a63-4e1a-a5c0-0fe22f3c42d6/?prof=required

Note that they put a copy of her answer as the second message in the list, but it makes more sense if you skip that initially and read through the thread to the end (reading all the messages in chronological order).
