Windows Media Center is my all-time favorite media viewer/player. Best one I know of.
Ok, this began happening a very long time ago...when I first started WMC.
WMC would sometimes randomly crash. With no apparent reason.
After a hard disk failure on my laptop, I got a new disk and reinstalled the OS.
I downloaded the K-lite codec pack to be able to play .flv and .divx files on Windows Media Player.
WMP started misbehaving by going out of full screen during playback and even letting the screensaver start (and I can assure you, the checkbox that enables screensaver during playback is unchecked)
I decided to use WMC then, and found out K-lite also gave it the ability to play .divx and .flv files. So i decided to stick with it. After watching a movie on it, WMC crashed when I tried to exit.
SInce it was past midninght already, I decided to see what to do in the morning. It's now the morning and WMC won't even start.
I managed to finally make it start, and changed the monitor detection settings for it and crashing seized, but I am still in suspicion thqat it may crash again.
These are the crash details:

Any idea on how to make sure this never happens again? I love WMC and don't think this should be happening.
On a side-note, a few days back I completely disabled Data Execution Prevention, because firefox would crash at certain web-sites... www.starcraft2.com/ being the most noted one.

First, remove that codec pack, run a registry cleaner, and see if WMP and VMC run. If they start working, install the Haali media splitter and FFDShow. IMHO, you should stay away from codec packs when dealing with VMC, and stick to the bare minimums to get your media playing.

Ok, removed K-lite. I know ffdshow allows flv playback, so I assume haali allows .divx playback...The full .divx codec does not let Media Center play .divx files tho.
The ONLY program with registry cleaning tools I trust is piriform Ccleaner...it has done a good job, so I use it. -
Ok, neither allows .flv playback, and of all my media player WMC and WMP have the highest performane overall.
I am re-installing K-lite if I don't find a codec that allows .flv playback in at least WMC. -
Found the .FLV splitter K-lite uses. Or at least part of it. I could have audio, but no video...I am reinstalling k-lite, don't care what it does. All I want is WMC and WMP to be able to play .flv and .divx files and I just don't know how to obtain the indiidual codecs.
