Please help -- I'm totally confused as to whether or not Windows Media Center has all the functionality of XP Pro?!
Some posts I read elsewhere say that Media Center is built on XP Pro, and thus should have all its features/functionality along with the added media features. But a Microsoft website chart comparing OS features ( at http://www.microsoft.com/uk/windows/editions/xp-pro/media.mspx ) indicates that Media Center, unlike XP Pro and Home, can't "Connect to Internet wirelessly" via Remote -- whatever that means!
I'm considering 2 different laptops -- one with Media Center and one with XP Pro -- so i urgently need to understand exactly what functionality I'd be missing if I went with the Media Center OS.
    Please help,
    Thanks.

You should visit http://www.winsupersite.com. Paul has reviewed every version of Windows; check out the site and read up on XP Pro and MCE.

Thanks. i of course Googled before I posted my question and had read Paul's reviews. He thinks MCE is better than sliced bread BUT never addresses anything that MCE might be missing that XP Pro has. Since the Microsoft site I posted DOES indicate that something is missing from MCE -- not to mention the higher price you have to pay to "upgrade" from MCE to XP Pro on many notebooks -- I am trying to ascretain what functionality I might be missing if I went with MCE.
I can't find that info anywhere on Paul's site, or anywhere else. I'd be grateful if anyone could clarify, or point me to the right place.
    Thanks.

It should support at least , if you're buying a laptop it should support WiFi. Oh yes you could even connect a regular XP Pro Lappie to TV , its just that it would not be that easy. Do you really want that media goodie stuff , I would rather go for XP Pro

I always go with pro. If you ever want to connect to a domain, you'll need pro. If you want the extra security features, I'm pretty sure you'll need pro. If you want all the media goodies, go with MCE.

Windows XP MCE 2004 was built on Pro. MCE 2005 is built on Home.

For me, as an XP Home non-corporate advanced user, Pro is not worth all the extra "security features". Never missed them in 4 years.

Tammy, if you expect to use the laptop in a corporate/university network, better buy Pro than MCE. Otherwise, you might not be able to log on the network.

@Ervin: Where did you read that 2005 was based on Home? Everything I've read says all versions of MCE are based on Professional. I've seen various posts on various websites claiming 2005 is based on Home, but all other posts correct this misinformation.

I specifically remember reading, when MCE 2005 came out, that it was intentionally based on Home and crippled, so that MS could decrease its price. I'll try to find some articles.

    Edit:
It wasn't that difficult. Here you are: CNET.
